SVHS Newsletter April 2021
Welcome to April and I’m hopeful we have few showers as we try to kick off Football and say hello to track and field, as well as baseball and softball! We have a lot of ground to cover with very little time to do so.
Credit Recovery/Summer School-
Any student or parent who is interested in credit recovery, and/or summer school options this year should contact Mr. Field at 668-2392, or jfield@sangamonvalley.org for details. Sangamon Valley CUSD #9 is coordinating efforts to provide credit recovery options to students at no cost this summer utilizing federal pandemic relief funding. Credit recovery will be provided with the APEX online learning program and students will be able to come to school June 7th-July 1st from 8:00 AM-11:30 AM Monday through Friday. You can access additional information about APEX Credit Recovery with this link.
Homecoming Week, April 12-16-
SVHS will celebrate homecoming the week of April 12-16. There will be student dress-up days, “pandemic friendly” homecoming games on the 14th for A students and the 15th for B students. The Football Homecoming Game will be Friday April 16, at 7pm. Admission is free and masks are required for entry. Spectators are also encouraged to practice social distancing.
Seniors-
The Jostens Representative will be passing out caps, gowns, and all other items on Friday April 9 from 7:15am - 8:15am. Contact the high school office with any questions.
Seniors must complete 30 hours of community service to meet graduation requirements. Students hours must be completed and submitted by May 7th. If you are not sure about how many hours you have obtained please contact Mrs. Antonacci. Forms can be found in the high school office or our website Sangamon Valley High School Academics.
All seniors in the state of Illinois must complete the FAFSA or the FAFSA Non-Participation Form to graduate. If you have not already done so, please follow this link FAFSA. Parents/guardians who wish to opt their child out of this graduation requirement (or whose child does not meet the eligibility criteria to file the FAFSA) must complete the FAFSA Non-Participation Form and return this form to the Director of Student Services, Mrs. Antonacci.
Finals-
The leadership team and administration at Sangamon Valley High School have decided to waive final exams again for the second semester. As a result of the school year being interrupted by the pandemic, the leadership team felt that it was in the best interest of the students to forego the exams in lieu of more instructional time.
SAT Update-
We won’t be participating in the PSAT this year, but we will be testing the juniors on April 13th at the Methodist Church in Illiopolis. Students must arrive on time and be prepared to test, or they will have to take the make up at a later date. Students will be responsible for getting to the church on their own, and they are allowed to drive. After testing is completed, students will be released to go home.
Illinois Science Assessment (ISA)-
Juniors are also required to take the ISA exam this year in accordance with state law. The test will be given at the high school on Monday May 17th at 8:30 AM. Students should bring a fully charged chromebook or laptop. Any student who does not complete the ISA on May 17th will have to make it up.
Graduation-
Graduation will be on Saturday May 29th at 7 PM. The administration is still working on the details aligned with where we will be in terms of mitigations at that time, and we will communicate any additional information as soon as possible. Mandatory Graduation practice will be on Friday May 26th at 8:30 AM at SVHS. Students should come with their cap and gown. Ladies are encouraged to wear the shoes they will be walking in during the ceremony to practice.
