Workshop 1: Planning to study abroad
Objective:
After your graduation from school you and your Erasmus friends plan to study together in a foreign European country for one year.
Since everybody from your group wants to study abroad you have to pick a town outside of Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Norway and Romania.
Plan your stay abroad!
On the next slide you will find some (but probably not all) of the questions that need to be answered before boarding your flight / train / ship.
Prepare a presentation (duration ca. five minutes) where you present your future university / college. Present your answers to the questions on the next slide and show which problems you might face when studying abroad.
Please use a format that is usable online (Google slides, Padlet, Prezi,…) and remember to include all the sources for pictures you use!
Questions to be answered:
Where do you want to study and why? Find a university / college that offers the subjects you are interested in.
Where will you live? A dormitory, an apartment by yourself, a shared apartment / house?
How expensive will studying abroad be (Housing, food, student fees, traveling to and from your home country, …)? How will you finance your time abroad? Are there scholarships? Will you have to take a job?
Will you get help planning your stay abroad? Are there exchange or partner programs?
Will you meet prejudices about your home country? Do you have any prejudices about your host country that make you feel uneasy of going there?
What are the requirements for studying in that country? Do you need especially good grades or a special language certificate? Is your school diploma accepted at your future university /college?
After your study abroad, you might want to work in your home country. Will your diploma from your study abroad be acknowledged in your home country? Will it be acknowledged in other countries?
