WHY STANDARDS-BASED LEARNING?
WHY STANDARDS-BASED LEARNING?
To make grades more equitable for students of all races and genders by removing influences of behavior (both positive and negative).
To make grades more reliable indicators of students’ achievement, rather than a reward or punishment.
To allow for growth by reporting student learning "at that moment" rather than averaging all scores in the past, because students learn at different rates.
To align consistent expectations of what students should know and be able to do across the district and sequenced by grade level.
To develop self-directed learners who are involved in the goal-setting and self-assessment process.
