Title I & Arts Integration

What is Arts Integration?

In Arts Integration, the arts and another content area are co-equally and jointly pursued, with dual learning objectives in order to gain greater understanding in both, and the art serving as a creative method for students to construct and demonstrate understanding.

For example, students use theatre skills (characterization, stage composition, action, expression) to dramatize moments in history, providing an authentic context to learn about social studies as well as developing and refining their theatre skills as the content knowledge impacts their dramatizations.

Title I funds may be used to fund an arts integration project if it is aligned with the site's goals on their School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). Typically this means arts integration to address literacy or math goals.

How Do I Know My School's Goals?

Start by checking out your school's SPSA for its literacy and math goals. SPSAs from the 2023-2024 school year can be found here.
