Title I & Arts Integration
What is Arts Integration?
In Arts Integration, the arts and another content area are co-equally and jointly pursued, with dual learning objectives in order to gain greater understanding in both, and the art serving as a creative method for students to construct and demonstrate understanding.
For example, students use theatre skills (characterization, stage composition, action, expression) to dramatize moments in history, providing an authentic context to learn about social studies as well as developing and refining their theatre skills as the content knowledge impacts their dramatizations.
Title I funds may be used to fund an arts integration project if it is aligned with the site's goals on their School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). Typically this means arts integration to address literacy or math goals.
How Do I Know My School's Goals?
Start by checking out your school's SPSA for its literacy and math goals. SPSAs from the 2023-2024 school year can be found here.
Example SPSA Goals:
By June 2023, 90% of K-2 students will test at or above grade level on the FAST assessment.
By June 2023, 85% of 3rd grade students will show an increase in SBAC score.
By June 2023, 75% of students in grades 3-5 will meet or exceed standards on the CAASPP Math assessment.
Goals can be found in a chart format like this one:
How Do I Choose an Arts Integration Partner?
Now that you know what your school goals are, identify the grade level you want to focus on and the organization or program that fits best.
The organizations below have approved district Professional Services Agreements (PSAs). This means your school can access these services without creating your own contract.

What Does My School Do Next?
Work with your school to ensure funding is available.
Contact the organization. Tell them what you want and ask them to provide a description of services, quantity, and rates. These must be in alignment with Scope of Work in the PSA.
NOTE: This is not a quote, and principals cannot sign a contract, agreement or quote, because the master contract is already approved.
Services can begin immediately.
Your school will draft a requisition (E-pro) for the services and submit it through PeopleSoft. Under “Item Description” indicate that these services are to be paid for under the master PSA and include the PSA number found under the organization's information above.
A purchase order (PO) is generated by the district and is sent to the organization. This usually takes about 2 weeks.
AFTER SERVICES ARE PROVIDED:
The organization provides an invoice to the school for provided services.
The school principal signs the invoice (anywhere), verifying that services have been rendered as stated.
The school submits the invoice, with the contract number, via email to both supctrec@sandi.net and apinvoices@sandi.net
Accounts Payable cuts check and sends to the organization, usually within 30 days of receiving an invoice.
