Social and Emotional Learning through Movement
Margot Toppen, Founder and CEO of EduMotion, “The most
successful social and emotional learning (SEL) programs use
active forms of learning to teach students, and evidence
suggests that dance outpaces other forms of physical activity
and other forms of arts learning when it comes to improving SEL
outcomes.” Dance has been shown to improve:
● empathy
● the ability to express emotion
● acceptance of self, peers and critiques
● self-esteem
● self-management skills

Tune Your Engines
One Tune Your Engine lesson per day.
About 10 minutes per lesson.
All students ready to learn.
This program utilizes tools from a wide range of movement practices (ie yoga, pilates, Tai Chi, etc.) to reduce stress, warm up the mind and body up, and get ready for the day. By connecting your mind and body, you can feel your best and do your best. Use these lessons synchronously, with all (including the teacher), doing the activity.
While we are proud to offer this program virtually, in no way do these videos replace a live teaching artist in the classroom.
Teaching Artist: Tina Gerstler (aka Mrs. Reynoso)

About the 6 Videos:
transcenDANCE partnered with San Diego Unified Visual and Performing Arts Department to create six short videos that bring unique experiences to students with the goal of building resiliency through the arts. The intention is to take students through a guided experience during each video that focuses on different aspects of resilience, including story-telling, breath, nature, dancing to release stress, and personal reflection. Teachers may want to tailor certain instructions to their unique classes to get the best results. Each video may be used as a springboard and teachers may find additional ways to further develop exercises, concepts, and assignments.
