1st Battalion History

History

The San Diego High School Army Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (AJROTC) was established in 1919. It was the first ROTC unit in San Diego and the school district; perhaps the first in California. JROTC was preceded by the San Diego High Corps of Cadets three years before (during World War I) before it disbanded two years later.

SDHS JROTC first instructor was Captain Walter Frantz, an Army Officer and WW I veteran. He was responsible for building JROTC from scratch. Stay tuned for additional historical information about the 1st Battalion.
