Project Overview: Our 10th grade AOIT students will be exploring identity, “who you are” in relation to the digital age. Students will be exploring the benefits and consequences of online identities and personalities, as well as the importance of creating and maintaining a healthy and safe online identity. Students will distinguish between the differences of who they really are and who they portray themselves as online. Students will also explore positive identities and healthy habits of successful people who use their online identities for professional and future applications and benefits. Ultimately, students will be able to see the benefits in maintaining a healthier online identity and be able to apply what they have learned by creating a personal blog/vlog on wix.com that utilizes their professional online skills. Then they will teach middle schoolers and parents in community school workshops about P.O.P (Positive Online Presence) and focus on one aspect of the essential question: How can I inspire others to create a positive, safe, and healthy online presence? They will present to the local middle schools in groups of 3-4 a presentation and teach local feeder middle schoolers to log on safely, utilize privacy settings, stay safe, avoid cyberbullying, and get feedback on their own online persona, while also utilizing this tool as a platform to offer advice about how to have a healthy, positive, and safe online presence. They will create screen recordings and interactive videos to use in their demonstration of P.O.P. skills they learned and they will create a handout, poster, and/or pamphlet (infographic) as groups in Canva to further demonstrate their newly gained knowledge. If they are in the AP Computer Science pathway they will utilize their coding skills to create and code an app/website that will allow students to develop and understand the importance of having a positive and healthy online identity through different topics that the students choose. Students will present their findings at CCTE Showcase and set up a booth with their screen recordings, videos and a P.O.P. Photobooth that will have props demonstrating positive images and identities to portray online.
