Week 2 - Journal

Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)

In this week I learned the following to reach to make my assignment:

1- Downlead the program Fusion 360 and install it.

2- Made mobile holder physical model from cardboard.

3- Learning the program and made final product mobile holder.

My design idea inspired from this idea but I added 2 sides to make the design more enclosure.

I update my design not take this idea as same.

Tool Chain

Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?

  • I use Fusion 360 because it is a free software and has a simple interface.

  • software (LaserWorkV6) / Machine (laser cutting) / Material (Wood)

Design/Preparation Process

Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?

To reach to make my assignment I made the forward steps to know how to use fusion and know all joints types so I can do my assignment in the final of this steps.

1- Made mobile holder physical model from cardboard with a accurate dimensions.

2- Made 2d exercises using Fusion 360.

Using rectangle and circle and trim to create this shape.

I made this shape using polygon 8 sides and 4 sides and offset and the inside part made using circle and trim.

I made this shape like the last shape but I added fillet and made it using accurate dimensions.

I made this shape using circles and trim and using circular pattern.

3- Made 2.5d exercises using Fusion 360 and using accurate dimensions and joints.

  1. Wardrobe

Part 1: Back part (I used rectangle and arc to make this shape)

Part 3: Top and bottom parts (I used rectangle, trim, circle and mirror to make this part)

I Extruded all parts using components

Part 2: Side part (I used rectangle and trim to make this part)

Part 4: Door (I used rectangle, trim and arc to make this part)

I made join to all parts and this is the final product.

2. Rocking Chair

Part1: Back part (I used rectangle and arc to make this shape)

Part3: Side part with no dimensions (I used rectangle, trim, circle , arc , fillet and mirror to make this part)

I Extruded parts using components

Part2: Base part (I used rectangle and trim to make this part and using t slot connection)

Part3: Side part with dimensions

I made join to all parts and this is the final product.

Finally my assignment "mobile holder"

Part1: Back part (I used rectangle and trim to make this part and using t slot connection and Screw Joints)

Part3: Base (I used rectangle and trim to make this part and using t slot connection to connect it with the back part)

Final object from front view

Export all sketches as dxf and open it in laser works

Part2: Side view (I used rectangle and trim to make this part and using screw Joints)

I Extruded all parts using components and I made join to all parts

Final object from Back view

Determine the mood is cut and speed 25 and power 65

Development/Implementation Process

Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?

By using laser cut machine and wood material I made the design, thin connect all parts with each other using the connections which I designed (T slot and Screw Joints)

I made openings from side to reach the volume buttons and the power and from back in the part of camera.

  • After finishing my design I export all sketches in dxf files and import it in laser works.

  • I determine all lines in mode cut with speed 25 and power 65 to cut this shapes using laser machine.

  • After determine this sittings I click in download to send it to the machine.

  • After this I used the arrows (in fig 1) to determine the origin and set it, thin check the frame of works is in on the used wood.

  • Thin click start to start cutting.

  • After this I connect all parts together using t slot connection and Screw Joints.

Community of Learning

Did you ask for feedback? What are the ideas that others have contributed or suggested? What was someone else’s idea that you built upon? How did you help your peers? How did your peers help you?

I helped Ahmed Saeed in the lab at the time slot of laser cut, he was have a problem to connect his parts and we suggested to him to repeat cutting of this part with the accurate dimensions.

I helped Esraa to color her design in a black color.

Overcoming Challenges

When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this assignment?

1- The sides of my design was so poor and i didn't like it so I made a design like truss design.

2- I would prefer that the slope of my design is bigger than this slope which is designed.

In this week I didn't face any technical problems because I have an experience in this process.

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

I learned all connection of wood to attach all parts with each other to create 2.5D object and that I will use in my final project.

WOW!

What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?

I learned how color the wood to make the appearance is better using spray colors.
