Week 4 - Journal

My assignment was to make an electric simple device with 2 outputs , after searching the internet i finally found a great simple idea as i always like . and more important its useful for me not just an assignment . for search mainly i used YouTube

The idea was simply using the DC fan to make a cooler for the laptop .

The final product with some changes .

Finally it was practical ,useful and easy to use .The advantage of the 2 cardboards it can be adjusted according to the laptop . to put the fan exactly under the ventilation holes .

First : I used the tinkercad to simulate the circuit
a 5v power supply connected in parallel with the dc fan and a red LED to let me know that the fan is on

Next : I used the cardboard ( a power bank case )to make the body of the device

First i connected the power supply (5V) to the breadboard , i used the 5 v adaptor ,according to the fan worksheet it uses 5v source ,then I connected the DC fan and it worked.

Next I connected the red LED in parallel with the fan and I used a 220 resistor for the LED connecting it with anode to decrease the voltage going for the lamp .I used the parallel technique(for connecting the fan and the LED ) to give the same voltage and current for both of them .

Finally I connected the on/of switch to the anode coming out of the power supply ,In series with the circuit so that i could control the circuit by switching off it will cut the electrical current completely cause the circuit will not be closed .

After simulating the circuit on tinkercad i applied it it in real. With the circuit working i went for the next step .
For this you need :-
2 crocodiles wires
about 4 jumper wires
1 on/off switch button
1 LED lamp
1 DC fan
1 mini breadboard
1 cardboard case

1.glue gun
2.cutter
3.scissor

Next I used the cardboard face to put the LED and the fan as the main components and then i put the other parts to fit it.

The LED lamb was not fixed so I used the glue gun .

The second step i put the on/off switch .

the power supply it was at the side of the device .

Finally after putting the circuit i used the glue gun and a cardboard to close the first part of the device .

The device can be used as a fan and put on the mobile holder that we made at week 2.

Or we can use it as a 2 parts adjustable laptop cooler .

I had a problem with the resistors as they were color coded ad i had a problem distinguishing between red and brown as i have some sort of color blindness so i posted it on Slack and Mina , M.Elgazar and Abdelfattah helped me.

They told me about another way using the voltmeter i was able to measure all the resistors and i wrote the value on each type and it really made it easy .

The second thing as i was facing some sort of problem with Ohm's law our instructor Maha shared an easy website to help us measure the resistance , current and the voltage of a circuit called ledcalc .

First i had a problem knowing the value of the resistors so my friends told me about a way to measure it .I looked for it and found a way using the voltmeter on the youtube .

regarding Owms law i used a website called Ohms law calculator to help me .

There's a tutorial for everything so use the internet to make the learning experience easy for you . i had problem with some exercises in this week, IN that case google and YouTube are your friends they will help you not to waste any time

My project has a certain type of motor that will open the door of the box to a certain limit so it helped me figure out the mechanical part of the project and the lock for the box .

tinkercad website and how easy its to destroy your comnents if there was no computer simulation also how easy is that websit even for kids and we can use it gor 3d printing and coding also .

It was great It has a blog where you can see others work .Learn tag where you can see simple tutorials .

Teach . where you can find courses for each age group using tinkercad to teach the children about design , coding and much more.

Its a very easy simplean fun to use website for the kids and the adults and more importantly its FREE .
