My first interaction with the digital fabrication world by my own hands and it was really a great experience. we used the laser cutter and the 3d printer. We got our files and we edited it so that it is suitable for our machines .My main goal for this week was to enjoy the process as much as i could and get experience as much as i can .That's why I chose figures from series and movies that I loved to get in touch with .Its like connecting with their worlds , reaching out for a new dimension .
To find the laser cutter i looked through different websites .finally i got a design for batman logo which I am a big fan of .Thus, I took it and made different designs from it .
Next the 3d printing. I looked through variable sites to get a simple and interesting figure which will not be easily found in the market. I chose the hand of the king symbol . Game Of Throne series fans can relate .

As for the laser cutting we used plywood as a material and laser work as a software to edit the file .
the design process
Regarding the 3d printing we used Prusa the printer and the filament was red PLA .Although i really wanted a golden filament .as for the software it was cura.The videos really helped us it was a simple and user-friendly app

paper prototype
My goal was to make a keychain with the batman logo . I made different shapes that gave me a great experience .During the design i wasn't able to imagine the size of the keychain so I used the paper to make a low fedality prototype .That concept really helped me .
I used cura to edit the file which was already prepared i just had to edit the size , the support and the profile to suit our printer .

Laser Cutter first i edited the design using laser work soft ware and downloaded the file to the laser cutter to be printed .
The first one was too big to be a key chain ,so I edited the size and made a new one with smaller size and I edited the laser process using less speed and less power which made the engraved part brighter in color .
Then I made new one with the engraving is in the whole chain except the logo . Sherif one of the instructors helped me with that , we made 2 circles with the same diameter one engraved and the other was cut .
Finally I cut the logo itself.

it was not going to take a lot of time and materials
we used the 3d printing machine Prusa and i used red PLA filament.
i uploaded the geo file ( edited using cura ) to the memory card and then to the machine .
It took about 7 grams .

That was during the implementation the instructors were very helpful , the different batman keychain designs i did in the lab with the help of the instructors .For example i wasn't able to make the logo appear the and the rest of the keychain engraved and i did that by the help of the instructors .Simply by makin two circles with the same dimensions one is cut and the other is engraved .
Also the websites that I used where full of projects and how to make them in details . Everybody was cooperative and the responded to each other there

The challenges was how to se the software's as that was my first time . The videos provided helped me a lot and i also raised the speed of the video so i could apply each step and that saved me a lot of time . Another one it was really hard for me to imagine the real size of the figure so i used paper to make prototypes to imagine the size .

The main things how to edit a design to suit my needs . How to edit the settings at the design to fit my machine whether it is a laser cutter or the 3d printer .

The laser cutter it was so great and the different applications i can use it for . how i can use it in different ways to shape the wood in variable different ways . Its like giving the wood a new dimension to be shaped in it.
