Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)

i was inspired with this photo 2in1 organizer (pens holder and mobile stand)

i care about multi purpose tools at all

my idea is inserting cut pattern for all faces of the pen holder to make it 3in 1 by adding source of light to add a decorated lantern to the pens holder

Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?

fusion 360 is the frist step , i use it for designing after learning how to use the program from tutorials this week.

i use lasercad to prepare my pen holder for laser cutting

SOFTWARE : lasercad v8.21.10.3

Design/Preparation Process

Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?

I use fusion 360 for designing

1- i creat new component (face 1) then i sketch the design starting with T-SLOT face

(* mohannad's advice)

2- the full shape and dimentions is attached

3- i was very carful to define all points while i was working step by step

5- i save the file as xdf then i open it by lasreCAD to prepare the file for lasercutting

6- i choose the option CUT for all lines using speed =10 and power =65

2-i import dxf file (rose drawing)

i move it to the first face

4-i creat new component (face 3) and skech it as shown then copy & paste the rose

3- i extrud the design 3mm and give it wooden appearence then creat new component (face 2)and duplicate it

5- the same with step 3 for the face 4

6- i use JOINT for assembly then PROJECT TO make the ground part

8- extrude 3mm & wooden appearence

7- creat new component (ground ) , PROJECT all taps and draw the ground face

9- use JOINT for assembly

10- new component (mobile stand), sketch & paste the ROSE

12- new component (mobile stand 2), sketch

11- EXTRUDE 3mm , wooden appearence

13- EXTRUDE 3mm , wooden appearence and JOINT assembly

DXF file export

1- i export all component as DXF files from FUSION 360

and set the kerf to 0.15

2- i open LASER CAD then file .. import all pecies

1- i rotate peices & move them to optimize usage of the wooden sheet

2- i choose cut for all peices with power = 65 and speed =10

i downloaded the file to the lasercutting machine

i set the origin then BOX to optimize usage

i cut the faces as video attached

i was watching the cutting process and taking photos and video

this week was diffrent ...

the end of week session was in the same day of the visit of THE PRRIM MINSTRE for CREATIVA

it was really hard day , full of instructions and restrictions which causes more pressure and also fatigue

but always there is some light :)

Overcoming Challenges

When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this assignment?

1- exporting DXF file from open source and upload it to FUSION 360

was avery difficult idea for me as beginner , i wasn't able to control it but YASSIN helped me to copy & move it even scaling the rose to fit the size of the pen holder

2-i got stuck in exporting the whole design to DXF FOR LASER in the faces with rose only but MOHANNED helped me

3- an error message appeard to me , i couldn't handle it first

then with try & error i found a solution attached below

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

this photo i was keeping on my gallery for islamic design idea

last week i was wondering how i will decorate my project with islamic designs

after the extra session with YASSIN and very hard working i learned how to extract drawings from image by using (INCSCAPE)

and how to apply it with fusion
