Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)

I saw the design on Slack, and it was created by Iman. I thought I’d like to make something similar because it’s simple easy to execute, stylish, and compact. I can place it anywhere without taking up much space.

I saw that the design was empty, so I thought of a pencil holder that reflects my emotional state. I made one side with a sad face and the other side with a happy face. Whenever I feel happy, I turn the happy face forward, and the opposite when I feel sad. It represents how I feel during my study time.

Tool Chain

Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?

fusion 360

I used fusion 360 software to design the 2D shapes and 3 d shapes

then i extract stl file to make the frame of glasses and prepare it for laser cutting machine

MACHINE : Malky Laser Cutter ML64

SOFTWARE : lasercad v8.21.10.3

MATERIAL: 3mm PLY Wood

I used screws to connect the faces of the holder together

i used nuts to secure the screws.

Design/Preparation Process

Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?

First, I drew the sketch in my mind into fusion 360 I determined the orientation by create sketch and drew using a rectangle ( length 120 / height 100 ) and make t slot and 2 taps and i make copy and new paste in new component to make all side like each other we make t slot and in 2 side we make 2 rectangle (lenght 60 / height 3) . we make 4 copies and change the middle shape like this girl in the design and we make the ground ( 90 *126 ) with 2 rectangle in each side and make middle side with 2 taps in 2 sides in it to divide the pencil holder into two halves.

we finish sketch then extrude them and add wood apperance

then we add joint by making t slot with nuts

i put every details in carousel photo's

then i export the file in dxf to put it in laser cad program to cut the design with the laser cutter machine

i save as a dxf then i put it in the laser cad program and determine the cutting & speed cut & ingraving parts then make it by machine by using 3m wood

Development/Implementation Process

Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?

For the laser machine,

I reviewed the file with Mr. Mahmoud Walid and sent it to him on Slack. i used plywood,

it was very important to download the design to transfer it from the laptop to the machine, close the bottom door to prevent any wood from flying, and close the top cover to avoid exposure to the laser. I also made sure to restart the machine, and before that, I securely fixed the wood to prevent it from moving. and I got my glasses model.

I asked Abdullah for help in how to make copy in fusion they told me that we must make a new component in active main file and make copy and new paste ..and when we make mirror tool the dimension destroy we ask mr . abd el rahman oraby in it .abdllah help me in joints and how make them in fusion

I couldn't determine where I should mark and connect to the other place. Abdullah showed me the correct directions.

Overcoming Challenges

When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this assignment?

I was drawing freeform shapes and I couldn’t define them because they were very difficult

the solution :

I would fix them using the Fix tool.

also i draw the sketch then i saw space when i make joints so i ask abd el rahman oraby how i measure the dimantion to It fills the gap or space.

the solution : We will measure the empty space or gap and look at the bottom right, it shows the difference between the lines, for example, how much space is there, so I can calculate the difference.

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

i can make the design of my final project by myself sketch and body and joints

Everything was new, and everything I learned was something nice to me because it was the first time I knew it.
