the assignment : cool glasses
"I value women and girls in general, and I see them as flowers. So, I wanted to create glasses with many flowers to say that you are a flower. I will combine the flowers and writing, and I’ll add sweet words for each girl around the outer frame of the glasses, with a special word for her, like 'you bloom like roses' or something similar."
fusion 360
fusion 360
I used fusion 360 software to design the 2D shapes and 3 d shapes
laser cad
then i extract stl file to make the frame of glasses and prepare it for laser cutting machine
.
cura
then i extract the design .dxf file to make the arms and prepare it for 3 d printing machine
MACHINE : Malky Laser Cutter ML64
SOFTWARE : lasercad v8.21.10.3
MATERIAL: 3mm PLY Wood
machine : creality - ender3 v2
software: ultimaker cura
material: PLA
First, I drew the sketch in my mind into fusion 360 I determined the orientation and drew it using a rectangle and I rounded the edges by fillet tool
i use fillet
then defined the measurements with dimensions. Then, I set a line and used the mirror tool to create another part for the glasses or the lens.
i make the flowers by make overlapping circles and cut by the trim tool Then, I added text and done as a final sketch.
I made two circles to be the place for the screws.
i make the glasses fully defined but i make a free drawing i cant make it fully defined but i fix it by using fix tool
i save as a dxf then i put it in the laser cad program and determine the cutting & speed cut & ingraving parts then make it by machine by using 3m wood
cut speed 10 power 65
engrave speed 200 power 40
speed cut speed 200 power 30
These were the measurements for the glasses, and I didn't define the organic shapes because they are difficult to define, but I did make a fix for them. but in the end The 3.5D model's dimensions are suitable for the application and i make 2 holes for using M3 screw(s) and nut(s) The size of each hole is 3.3.
I applied a wood appearance from the Appearance library.
I used Fusion 360, drew a line, and created a curve using the Fillet tool. Then, I did an Extrude with a thickness of 3 cm and created a circle in the arm with a diameter of 3.3mm.
I performed an Extrude Cut on the circle with a thickness of 7 mm, then saved the file in STL format.
Then, I converted the file to G-code and loaded it into Cura. I adjusted the settings by changing the orientation of the shape, so it no longer required support. .
the parameters are in the pictures below
and here I added the white plastic shape.
This is the glasses after being secured with plastic screws and nuts to the wood.
Here, I had used an extrude for the shape and use fillet tool
This was the final shape of the glasses frame and its arm, and I am really happy with this achievement.

For the laser machine,
I reviewed the file with Mr. Mahmoud Walid and sent it to him on Slack. i used plywood,
it was very important to download the design to transfer it from the laptop to the machine, close the bottom door to prevent any wood from flying, and close the top cover to avoid exposure to the laser. I also made sure to restart the machine, and before that, I securely fixed the wood to prevent it from moving. and I got my glasses model.
for 3d printing
I reviewed the STL file with Engineer Mahmoud Walid using the ULTRAMAKER CURA software, where he helped me.
I sent the Gcode file to the SD card and inserted it into the machine.
it was important to know that if you touch the bed while the machine is running, it will stop. It was also important to know that when removing the plastic shape, I needed to push down on the bed to release the shape, applying pressure from the left, right, and then lifting the shape by hand afterwards.
Finally, I got my glasses hands :)
I asked Abdullah for help in creating the glasses arm on Fusion 360. I was feeling a bit confused about how to design and assemble the glasses, so Abdullah helped me with the extrude cut and how to assemble the glasses, as well as the measurements for the circle to place the screw. I didn't personally help anyone with the design, but I supported anyone who felt stressed, so I considered that as helping.
I realized that the overlapping circles in laser cutting must be open to each other, otherwise the design will be ruined because everything will be cut.
the solution :
i add line to cut the circule and then use the trim tool to become 2 parts
i can make the design of my final project by myself
I used to think that I was behind and frustrated, but I learned that even if I do something small, it will help me accomplish a lot of what I have left. And I actually finished the glasses, which was an achievement.
We made a robot in the shape of a girl, and it was really cool and beautiful. It combined wood and plastic.
