The idea of week 2 is to be able to fabricate a cool glasses using Fusion360, Laser Cutting, and 3 D Printing.
I really hate that glasses hide girls` eyes so I want to design a girlish glasses that we can use as an accessory.
Materials: Plywood 3 mm.
Material: PLA
Fusion 360:
First I used fusion 360 to design the shape of the glasses and it`s two holder.
I searched the internet for the suitable size of the glasses and holders.
Designing the glasses:
I wanted it to be like cat`s eyes. Drawing circles didn`t work at all. It was more like frogs` eyes. It`s better to draw oval shapes and a line as a constructive line. define the two oval shapes. We draw two oval shapes as the laser cutter don`t draw it cuts so to make glasses you have to draw two oval shapes for each eye. Then put the hole for the nail. The hole should be 3.3 mm in diameter so it will be suitable and not too tight.
Then draw the line of eye lashes. Draw it as a triangle then trim the base after defining it.
finally make mirror for the second eye and save as .dxf
For Laser Cutting:
After designing in Fusion 360, make sure that it is fully defined.
Then I transferred it to Laser Cad V8.21.
I saved the file in *.DXF extension
And finally, I transferred the file on a Flash memory.
During my visit to Creativa Giza, I used the laser cutter to fabricate the body of the glasses .
Laser Cutting Parameter:
Cut: Power 65 Speed 10
Engrave: Power 40 Speed 200
Speed cut:Power 30 Speed 200
For the holder I used fusion 360 as well.
first draw a rectangle with the size you want.
then change the plane and create new sketch to make the connector between glasses and the holder. make fillet for better shape and then the hole. the hole should be 3.3 mm for M3 nails.
For 3 d printing
I had to draw the small stick that will allow girls to hold the glasses.
I made folding 2 mm.
It should be firm and classy as well.
Used Ultimaker Cura Software to prepare the *.STL .
It didn`t need any support since it is already bedded and super tiny
infill density 20%
infill pattern cubic.
I chose super quality as it is small in size and I have enough time.
The nozzle was 0.4 mm away.
I had to be sure that it is in the correct orientation, supports, layer height, infill, and brim so we will use the minimum amount of PLA.
We connected the flashcard, pressed download from the laptop so the design appeared on the Laser cutter screen.
First press origin to choose from where you have to start.
Use the arrow cursors to choose the origin point.
(If you want smaller moves press on z down and z up for making it bigger. )
Press start and make sure you closed the laser cutter so we will not get harmed and also to prevent the smoke from going out.
Enjoy watching your work done.
(For emergency press stop and inform the lab specialist.)
(I used part of a plywood sheet and 2 minutes.)
For the 3d printer
we connected the flashcard to the 3D printer.
we can use the stick to choose the file and press on it the confirm to start.
It was important to:
Clean the metal stage with alcohol to remove any extra PLA .
Fix the nozzle close to the metal piece down to let the PLA stick to it.
Be sure that the first layer was O.K.
Yes, I t was a little bit hard for me to understand that to edit the skitch I had to right click on the sketch and not to create a new sketch.
The instructor helped me to be able to make the sketches over each other and to understand how to change the orientations.
I asked my peers about the sketches, they tried to help me but I couldn`t understand why It is not correct until the instructor indicate that I am working in another sketch.
1- In the first time, it wasn`t clear to me that every time I turned to add something, I had to press right click on the same skitch and choose edit sketch not to start another new one.
2- When you are drawing the design remember that the final shape is what remains after cutting not the drawing itself.
3- I think it`s better to make the prototype first by clay, or paper after drawing, if you are a beginner like me.
I had to stop and start from scratch on the day I chose to go to the lab. Yes, It is disappointing but I hope next time it will be better.
After the instructor help and the lab specialist,
now I can draw the sketches in a right way and finally the design is ready to be printed.
I will use designing 3d models in making part 3 and 4 of the final project as i will be the turning off alarm system for the house owners.
1- The coolest thing that I learned this week that being with kind people will make hard situations pass peacefully.
2- I don`t like sad faces that`s why I removed the face of Dooda (the book mark)
I knew how to make Japanese drawings (Komiko )
Whenever I see a black drawing, I feel good.
