The Work idea is preparing a 2D model which consists of only one piece with file extension DXF.
I'm a coffee addict and from this I inspirated to make a coffee coaster as I love to use a surface below my cup to avoid any spilling of coffee on my important notes.
I changed the pattern of the coffee coaster to another one which I preferred more, and the following picture is just an example.
The idea of the 3D printing design is preparing a design which does not exceed 90 min in printing process. So, I decided to make a small dinosaur that will be exiting to be a gift and can be used to explain the 3D printing applications for a small child "Hamza"
The mainly inspired thing for me is to make a toy that is from the Hamza's favorite animals and by using one of the most favorite colors for him "Red".
The locally machine which called El Malky ML149 CO2 Laser Cutter.
Plywood 3mm sheet
LaserWorkV6 Application
Prusa i3 MK3 Printer
PLA Filament
UltiMaker Cura Program
At the first, I downloaded the DXF file of my required design. The file was containing 3 different coasters, I choose the desired one and remove the other two.
Then I imported the design in LaserWorkV6 and determined the scan and cut areas.
I customized the scan conditions as the following:
Speed: 300
Power: 25
For the cut conditions:
Speed: 25
Power: 65
Finally, I saved the file with ai extension and the file is ready now for next step.
At the first, I downloaded the STL file of my required design.
Then I imported the design in Cura and adjust some settings like dimensions to reduce the printing time.
When I reached to required dimensions, I sliced the design to determine the time or printing and the amount of filament.
The time is suitable and the number of grams. So, I saved the file and uploaded the G - code on the flash memory of 3D printer.
My design wasn't need support so, I didn't use any supports.
Click to Green circular button to turn on the machine.
From the PC connected to machine open Laserwork software and import my file.
Adjust the power and speed according to required conditions.
Click download to be able to upload the file to the machine.
From machine, click file and then I choose my file name.
Move the machine nozzle to determine the dimensions of the desirable design and reduce the wood waste.
Fix the plywood well to make sure that the nozzle will cut as design setting.
Click frame, until you determined the area of cutting.
Turn on the cooling bottom.
Close the door of the machine and click start.
Upload the G - code on the memory of the printer.
Insert the memory in the printer.
Clean the surface of printer with Alcohol before start.
Choose the file of my design and click start.
After printing, remove the support to get the required product.
The most challenge I faced in this week is my Laser Cutting design dimensions was 15 cm width, and 15 cm length which would take large amount of time around 30 minutes.
The used solution was to reduce the dimensions of the design to 5cm width, and 5 length and it was more suitable than the previous dimension for the application purpose.
The key of my solution was the advice from my instructor Eman to keep my available amount of wood and time the the next assignments.
I used my skills in 3D Printing and Laser cutting to prepare the designs that shown below and modify those designs can deal with the assignment criteria. According to Laser cutting design I faced a problem as there were three designs in the same file and with the gained experiences, I deleted the unwanted ones and determine the area of cutting or scan by using the software.
According to 3D printing the volume of the dinosaur were take more than available time. so, with the skills I was able to reduce the dinosaur dimension to can be worked with the assignment criteria.
