Week 3 - Journal

Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)

Hand sketch

This week's idea is to design a pen or pencil holder by FUSION360 and print it with the 3D printer. first, I want to make my model creative and extraordinary but, I faced many problems designing the model so I want to make it simple as possible and feel like it smiles at me when I use it. :D

Tool Chain

Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?

Software 1
I used FUSION360 to sketch and design the model.

Software 2

I usedUltimaker Cura to prepare the model into gcode files to insert into the 3D printer.

Machine
Prusa i3 mk3

Materials
Black PLA

Design/Preparation Process

Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?

My model was so simple.
- I made 2 rectangles in different planes by constructing a plane and used feature
LOFT.
- I used feature
Extrude operation (cut, new body) to make the smiley face and signature.
- I made fillets in the corners.
- I tried to make a pattern on the sides by downloading a pattern image from google and sketching over it.
- I sketched a handle by a Circle and
Revolve it, and deleted the down shape to give me the shape I want.
- I give my model an appearance (the material is plastic and the color is white).
- And for sure saved the files as STL.
- Then, I turned to Ultimaker Cura to prepare the model for the 3D printer as gcode.
Parameters of the model;
- 32.4*31.8*69 mm
- 20% Infill

-0.3 Layer height
- 11g
- 1h 29m

Development/Implementation Process

Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?

I used the 3D printer machine, and I used the manual to make sure that I am not doing something wrong.
- Send the gcode file into the SD card as mentioned in the manual.
- Insert the SD card into the Printer.
- Changed the filament from white to black.
- Chose the file from the printer and start to print.

Community of Learning

Did you ask for feedback? What are the ideas that others have contributed or suggested? What was someone else’s idea that you built upon? How did you help your peers? How did your peers help you?

Sketch over an image

I asked for feedback in the support session and mego suggest to me a very intersting idea which is google foe pattern image and insert it in the design and sketch over it to make a pattern in the sides.

Overcoming Challenges

When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this assignment?

When I get stuck I turn to google and youtube tutorials.
I want to make the smiley face in 4 sides by rectangular pattern, but it didn't work as I want. So, I decided to make it on 2 sides only and I think it's better.:D
( In the support session mego suggest me to search for patterns and sketch over it to reduce the time and material in printing.
Also, I want to save the file as STL but this option doesn't apper, and he told me to change the format in option save as mech to STL(binary).
)

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

I have learned a lot of tools that will help me designing my RC car.

WOW!

What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?

I have learned how to design a 3D model and how to sketch over an image. So, i think there is a lot of new tools were added to my knowledge.

Weekly Digest [OPTIONAL]

Tell us about any other cool things that you've made this week: in the Hands-on activity, tutorial examples, exercises, or any other cool mini-project that you tried out aside from the assignment.
