Week 1- Journal
Ideation
Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)
This is my first journal as a maker. So, let's go!
Sport Bike
Actually, I am interested in cars and motorcycles in real life. I decided to make a key chain, I picked a sportbike to be my laser-cut model from 3axis.co. :D
Laser Cut Model
3D Printing model
Pac Guy
This is my first time doing 3D printing. So, I have searched Thingiverse for something simple and unique. :)
Tool Chain
Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?
3D Printing
Ultimaker Cura
Laser Cutitng
Laser Work
PRUSA i3 MK2 3D Printer
El Malky ML1390 CO2 Laser Cutter
Materials:
- 3mm Plywood.
- PLA
Design/Preparation Process
Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?
For Laser Cutting, I prepare the model by Laser Work.
I customize my model to be (50*30) mm,
Cutting Speed> 25 mm/s
Cutting Power> 65%
Scanning Speed> 300 mm/s
Scanning Power> 25%
- Saved the file in .rd format.
For 3D printing, I prepare the model by Ultimaker Cura.
I customize my model to be (37*37*35) mm,
Layer height: 0.20mm
Infill: 20%
auto Support
auto Adhesion
- Saved the files in gcode format to insert in the 3D printer.
Development/Implementation Process
Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?
I used the laser cutter machine for the first time, and I used the manual to make sure that I am not doing something wrong.
- Insert the file into the machine as mentioned in the manual.
- Checked the sheet and set the origin and adjusted the focus.
- Tested that by making a pulse in the sheet and it is good to turn to the next step.
- Tracked the file then Run the machine to cut the model.
I used the 3D printer machine, and I used the manual to make sure that I am not doing something wrong.
- Send the gcode file into the SD card as mentioned in the manual.
- Insert the SD card into the Printer.
- Changed the filament from white to black.
- Chose the file from the printer and start to print.
Community of Learning
Did you ask for feedback? What are the ideas that others have contributed or suggested? What was someone else’s idea that you built upon? How did you help your peers? How did your peers help you?
I asked for help from mai while using the laser cutter at first as you told us to do because this was my first time working in it alone, she was so helpful BTW.
In 3D printing, I asked Ahmed to make sure with me if the temperature is good or not. And, we set the Printing temperature to be 210 and the build plate to be 60 degrees.
Overcoming Challenges
When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this assignment?
In 3D printing, the machine didn't work. we try a lot to know if the problem was in heating or the file itself but, we hadn't got a solution for this, and I could not be able to print my model, unfortunately.
Final Project
How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?
For sure in the final project, I will use the laser cutter machine and 3D printer to design the body of my RC car and I am ready for it.
WOW!
What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?
How to use the laser cutter machine and 3D printer on my own. :D
Weekly Digest [OPTIONAL]
Tell us about any other cool things that you've made this week: in the Hands-on activity, tutorial examples, exercises, or any other cool mini-project that you tried out aside from the assignment.
