Week 3 journal
The assignment for 3rd week :
Designing a model of a pen and pencil holder that may rest on a flat surface (Table Top) + mentioned specs.
I applied all process as the following with a consideration of instructions:
Dimensions
then I checked dimensions range.
Ideation
so, I tested my skills to imagine something different and try to create it exactly as it is by Fusion 360 with consideration the assignment instructions + User experience (handling pens through the holder)+ Holders Pen dimensions range. first I thought I tried applying Voronoi Pattern by Fusion 360 as a futuristic shape + Light Weight.
Software/machines/ materials has been required for the project as the following:
software: (Fusion 360).
it is used due to it's a friendly user, has the required features as 3d modelling, exporting stl. files (recognized for cura).
software: (Ultimaker_Cura).
it slices the file and sets the parameters of 3d printer (infill, supports, adhesion, speed, temperature,......etc).
Machine: (PRUSA 3 3D Printer.)
the available models in Fab Lab Egypt (San3a Tech).
Material: (PLA blue)
Due to the surface lines of the pen holder, the most suitable available technique is 3d printing, Ultimaker-Cura has been selected because it can slice the STL. files and convert it into G code file which is readable for (PRUSA 3 3D Printer.) , now it is ready for fabrication. PLA is selected because of the design needs to be robust+ it is feedable for (PRUSA 3 3D Printer).
creating a circle (Center Diameter C),
identifying origin point, (press tab on the keyboard), 95 mm (Diameter).
Create another small circle, first create a line from origin to C tangent, then create another circle identify snapping on the line end point, then tab, 20 mm.
3.press Trim and select the internal line of 20mm Circle,
4. select 95 mm Circle, press , line type, dash line
5. create Circular Pattern for the last trimmed circle.
6. select the origin point.
7. increase the quantity, till the wanted shape (15 is recommended).
8. identify couple of circles, press fillet.
9. identify Radius 3 mm.
10. press finish sketch.
11. Press CONSTRUCT, offset plane.
12. Identify distance (-110mm).
13. Press Create a new sketch, hide sketch1, then create a new circle (Center Diameter circle -Origin point/75mm). then press finish sketch.
14. press on account setting, Preferences, select Design, then check on "Allow of 3D sketching of lines and splines.
15.Draw guide lines to create Arc (3 points).
16. Press Sweep, select above profile, select path (last arc between 2 planes). identify Orientation as parallel, then ok.
17. press Shell, select the top face, identify inside thickness, 3mm.
18.Press Fillet, select the thickness face, identify 1 mm, ok.
19. Press Modify, Appearance.
20. Select Plastic, ABS.
21.Double click on ABS thumbnail, pick its color.
drag the material from Thumbnail the the object.
Finally Done!.
22. Right Click on the body, Save As Mesh, STL. file on your drive. Now go to Ultimaker_Cura
I met the specialist (Basant) in Fab Lab Egypt,. he followed me up and feed me with VIP sittings.
Open STL. file of your design, review the parameters (done with the Specialist, she recommended the following specs):
Printing Temperature: 215 C.
Print speed: 60 mm/s.
Uniform Re-scaling: 50% (Time Reduction)
Profile Extra fast: 0.3mm (Time Reduction)
Results after re-slicing:
3D Printing time: 1 hour 30 minutes.
Weight: 24 g. 8.10m.
2. Cleaning the bed with antiseptic alcohol.
3. saving the file as G. Code file, send it to the memory card of (PRUSA 3 3D Printer.).
4. insert the memory in the control panel.
5. using the right controller to print from SD, select the file name.
6. selecting bed heating, Enter.
7. Printing is proceeding.
the End.
Modelling a Voronoi Pattern was extremly chellenge this week:
I tried to create in different ways as:
Trying by transferring the object to Mesh, Then PREP to Mesh but it did not work well. (I missed PREP feature)
second trail creating voronoi by Autodesk Voronoi Sketch Generator plugin, it worked and I created it but embossing on the face, did not work either!.
on line generators (Platforms). but Fusion 360 does not support the available extensions!.
I had to skip it temporary and re-try again later to finalize the assignment in time.
Finishing skills (fillet edges, appearance materials,.....etc) on Fusion 360 will help me rendering the modelling of the final project.
Joining and assembly will show me the simulation of the full parts construction before fabrication.
LEGO Modeling !
Modelling a LEGO in offline session, I found out many features by every team presentation. the main lesson I got this time, I should start from the most appeared side to avoid complications come later during modelling journey. for instance in this sheet, building the body (Torso) in Front then Extrude the part, more easier and successful than using Loft feature.
