The assignment for 2nd week is Designing a model of a simple mobile phone holder that may rest on a flat surface (Table Top) by using Fusion 360 and fabricate it using Laser Cutting.
I applied all process as the following:
Sturdy &stable stand
( Structure).
2. suitable ergonomic angel for watching .
3. suitable for Landscape/Portrait mobile mode.
according to previous I started an ideation process with considering the description of the assignment (as The parts must assemble together using screws and nuts, a T-slot and Tabs) some ideas, then picked the big idea and tested it by cardboard.
I sketched the full Idea on cardboard.
I made a quick prototype to check the structure, scale and assembling.
I sketched the side view on Fision 360 and copied another side. I considered T slot standard dimensions and Tabs positions as Laser Cutting technique requirements.
4. I sketched the 3rd part.
4. extrude every parts, distance 3 mm.
5. I started joining components.
6. 3d model has been assembled.
7. I started exporting every sketch to DXF. file for proceeding to Laserwork .
8. I imported all sketches to LaserWorkV6 every part as a group for easier movement.
9. then nesting parts to origin point.
10. adjusting cutting mode parameters (Speed/Power) : 15 s/65p
11. save the file as RLD.
Software/machines/ materials has been as the following:
A. For Ideation.
B. For Implementation.
I opened RLD. mobile holder file by LaserWork.
added a circle as shown to make the holder lighter + easy holding.
texting a catchy phrase by Adobe Illustrator, then convert the text into outline, then export it to DXF. file.
importing DXF. file of the phrase inside the laserwork file.
scaling and adding the phrase in a suitable position on the holder.
identifying the cut/scan parameters for the whole parts
as the following:
cut for the main bodies : speed/power : 17/70
scan for the phrase: speed/power: 300/35
downloading the file to the Laser cutting machine.
1. Laser Cutting machine sittings :
I switched the machine on, adjusted bed level by controller switch and considered the distance between nozzle and the Ply Wood sheet by using Focus.
2. selecting the file name.
3. Tracking frame for the work area before running.
4. Calculating the estimated working time and Running.
5. Running.
6- Processing.
Shock !
Engraving on the other side has been done on the internal Face!
Mirror Vs. the specialist's Idea.
I should Mirror the other side to have the engraving on the external face, I thought to repeat it after mirroring the side (considering not to mirror the text). but Hussien (the specialist) suggested to re-download the text on the right face only on the same side.! I agreed to see how to adjust the machine in this case, excited to watch re-live amending! .
Done.!
Simulation before Fabrication!
I think the challenge this week leads that I should simulate the full assembled parts of final project before fabrication to avoid same mistake and discovering any other error in early time. saving time, cost and effort.
Re-Running is possible !!
re- engraving on the same part but on the other side, was wow to me. it means that we can find some solutions even after fabrication some times, also after engraving has been finished, the specialist re-run the scan to make the engraving more deep and presentable!. Ii was a new info. and a good practice for me!.
