the idea of the assignment this week choose two model from open source, one for 3D printed and another for laser cutted.
Because of my love and passion for space science, and since I am a member of NASA, I decided to design a model that expresses my interests, and it is a model of an astronaut sitting on one of the moons, and I also called it MOAZ too as my name to make it a memory for me forever.
when I was a child, riding bicycles was my favorite activity. Also, I love watching animes and one of those animes was containing some bicycles which has a specific logo on them. Actually, that was my first time understanding the meaning of acting like teamwork with the same logo so I decided to fabricate a design that identifies a particular logo to put it on my old bicycle.
software
i use software cura for 3D printed design to slice the stl file and export the gcode file to be ready for printed by 3d machine.
i use laser work to select the speed and the power for cutting and scanning and also to convert the dxf file to be rld file.
machines
use prusa I3 MK2 to fabricate the 3D printed design
use laser cutting machine to fabricate the laser cutting design
materials
white PLA filament
i use PLA because PLA is made from renewable raw materials so PLA is environmentally friendly.
plywood 3mm
i use 3mm because the power of machine can cut the 3mm perfectly.
3D printed:
1) I go to thingiverse to choose inspire design and download as stl file.
2)import file to cura to change the setting to be suitable for assignment requirements (maximum 90 minutes on the machine , maximum 25 grams)
3)the original design would take 1 hour and 45 min so i start to change some of settings:
infill: make the fill 20%
support: my file doesn't need for support so i remove it.
layer Hight: i use 0.3mm .
4) i start to slice the design and check if achieve the requirements or not.
5) the file will take 35 minutes and 8 gram so i save the file as gcode to be ready for fabricated.
laser cutter:
1) i go to 3axis to choose inspire design and download as dxf file.
2)import the dxf design to laser work to start change the (mode-speed-power)
3)i adjusted the size to be (5.2cm ,6.5cm)
4)then I give the red color for cut (speed 30, and power 75)
and the green color for the cut of speed (speed 300, power 25)
and the blue color for scan/engraving (speed 300, power 30)
5)i saved file as RLD
Laser cutter:
i put my RLD file to laser cutter computer
give name to the file and click download
Adjust focus
choose the file in the machine
track the frame
run the process
the process take 2min and 45 sec.
3D printed:
I transfer my G-code to SD card and put it into the machine
I cleaned 3D printer bed using alcohol
choose my G-code file
i watch the first layer to make sure that all things works well
it took 38 minute
one of the obstacles that faced me while fabricating was the SD card when i put it in the 3D printer machine which didn't work until the director in the lab come with me and try to restart the machine to fix this problem .
i learned how to make this outer line by concept cit of speed and this will help me in the final project .
i learn before using the 3D Printer machine i must chick the PLA print temperature to make sure i adjust the sitting at this temperature .
this task in the EOweek session is the coolest thing because three group make the same task but by different size .
