Week3 # - Journal

Ideation

pencil holder

This week's task is to design a pen holder

I searched a lot and did a veterinary feeding through many sites to learn about the different forms of pen holders.

And trying to choose something from them that I can implement and that fits the criteria, I chose that design, and I saw it on a YouTube channel and also in the links below the video there was a link to the site that was sold on, and I was able to see some pictures of it from all angles. Until I felt that it was different, attractive and simple, so I settled on implementation.

Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?

Design/Preparation Process

I chose a simple design that combines these criteria uncomplicatedly, within the limits of what I have learned and practiced from the demos in the videos on the site, and also within the limits of what is on YouTube, even if I want to use it in the way I do any step, to be available. This week's assignment is to design a pen holder I researched a lot and did a visual feed through several sites to learn about the different shapes of pen holders. And trying to choose something from them that I could implement and fit the criteria, I chose that design, I watched it on the YouTube channel and also in the links under the video there was a link to the site that was sold, and I was able to see some pictures of it from all angles. Until I felt that it was different, attractive and simple, I settled on the implementation, opened Fusion and created a new sketch and started working with the following stages and tools.

The tools I used

Filet

Appearance

chamfer

I made another design according to the criteria

Then I opened the file in Cura Slicer

To adjust the dimensions and control the weight and time that the product will take,

It was allotted to me only 30 grams and 90 minutes.

So I controlled the dimensions until I got this far

I adjusted some settings such as Material: Generic PLA / Printing temperature: 215 C / Layer height: 0.2mm / Infill: 20% / Support: Touching build plate / Adhesion: NO

Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact temperature.

Then I exported the file in G-code format.

Development/Implementation Process

About the start of the implementation process on the 3D printer, I transferred the file to an SD card

to transfer to the printer.

And when I used it, it was already working, so I searched for my file and selected it to start working.

It was completed in 55 minutes.

The model was somewhat attached to the floor of the printer, so I extracted it using a paint-paste knife in the lab.

Overcoming Challenges

What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?

The challenge for me this time is me

First: When I came on time for me in the lab, there was a meeting in the hall built by the 3D printer, and Miss Amani was busy in this meeting, and I had to wait for her from 15 to 20 minutes

Which made me reset the design and dimensions settings on Cura to make it finish in only the remaining time and it was almost an hour

Unfortunately, after the printing process was completed, the design was very small and completely unsuitable for placing pens in it as I planned it

But I dealt with that by making the pens to be placed on the high side in which he writes, and not on the side of the base.

The second challenge is that after completing the manufacturing process, I discovered that I did not meet the standards and I got an error when reading it for the first time. I did not use (Sweep or Loft) in my design.

Unfortunately, I discovered this very recently

If there was time, I would re-design and implement it

But I have been trained on such tools in previous experimental models.

Final Project

Tell us about any other cool things that you've made this week: in the Hands-on activity, tutorial examples, exercises, or any other cool mini-project that you tried out aside from the assignment.

Community of Learning

I sent to my friend Amany more than one design for the pen holder and asked her to help me choose the nicest holder in the shape, and she recommended the first design because it looks different.

WOW!

The cutest thing for me was when I put the colored pencils in the holder and I liked their shape very much and I saw them delightful.

I was so happy that I was able to pull this simple product from A to Z.
