During the summer of 2024, I had the opportunity to give time to Salisbury Eyecare and Eyewear. Through this internship, I was responsible for Patient Pre-Screening, Patient Preparation, and scribing as an optometric technician.
During the summer of 2024, I had the opportunity to give time to Salisbury Eyecare and Eyewear. Through this internship, I was responsible for Patient Pre-Screening, Patient Preparation, and scribing as an optometric technician.
I was using a pupillometer to measure the size of a patient's pupil with precision.
I was verifying the prescription of a patient's glasses with a lensometer to ensure accurate vision correction.
I was assisting Jasmine by scribing and documenting important information as her technician.

Throughout this experience, I developed valuable skills in patient communication and became proficient in using the office’s program, Crystal, which manages patient information and appointments.

Looking ahead, these skills will be beneficial as I pursue a career as a pediatrician. Effective communication with patients and being familiar with the technological tools will be crucial in that role.

The Outcomes
As a result of my work, I encountered situations where some patients were untrusting because I wasn't a doctor. This taught me the importance of being patient and calm with different types of patients and understanding their perspectives.
This experience is relevant to my long-term educational and career goals as it closely relates to the medical field. The interactions with patients and the overall environment have provided valuable insights that align with my aspirations.
