Advancements in Medical Care and First Aid

A millennia ago, in the age of sword and staff, medical care and first aid were poorly developed, and often nonexistent, resulting in innumerable deaths. In the modern day and age, advancements in medical technology, education, and first aid have resulted in a healthier, more prepared society, saving much more lives than 1000 years ago.

Face Mask and Spine Boarding Activity

By following a step-by-step procedure from the Sports Medicine module of the Paxton Patterson program my group preformed the Face Mask and Spine Boarding Activity. In this activity, we used a spine board, immobilizing wedges and a cervical collar to stabilize the patient's body to prevent further injury when transported to a nearby hospital.

These pictures show steps on how to cure an amputated finger. First, DON PPE and rinse the amputated finger with clean water. Then, cover it with a clean dressing and place it in a watertight plastic bag. Lastly, place it inside a separate container that contains ice and label the person's name, date, age, and the type of injury that occurred.

This project demonstrated how the muscle fibers, sarcomeres, and the overall muscle bundle work. The concept was to demonstrate this through pieces of candy. By using candy, we were able to show its concept and purpose in real life by picking out the colors of the candies to match the muscle composition.
