Rancho San Juan's mascot is the Trailblazer, and our eSports team wanted to find a niche within that theme that best represents how we want to represent our school.
The word vanguard is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as, "a group of people leading the way in new developments or ideas." Our goal this year is to build off of last year's club to create a highly competitive, disciplined, and collaborative group representing the best of Rancho San Juan and our community.
Our eSports team participates with both PlayVS and the High School eSports League.

Grades
Active members participating in tournaments are expected to maintain grades and not have any F's. Active members must maintain a 2.0 GPA. Student-athletes are students first.
Citizenship
Vanguard members represent Rancho San Juan through their sportmanship during games and by being resourceful, synergistic, and judicious in real life. Our members act responsibly.
Commitment
Student-athletes must attend practices and general club meetings, which are held in Room 211. Participation is required, and members build trust through actions.
Self Improvement
You don't have to be good or great to be a part of the Vanguard. You just have to dedicate yourself to improvement, collaboration, and building up your fellow members.

The seniors had to figure out whether to go on their senior trip or play in the rounds for Nationals. Somehow, they made it work, and they played against the finest R6 teams in the nation.
After losing their first match, the team scored a win to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament. The team had a rematch against our Fall Season Finals opponent who secured another win against us. Ultimately, our team placed third overall in Nationals, which is nothing to shake a stick at. Stay proud, R6 Alpha!

When the eSports Team began, I told them to have fun.
I didn't expect them to take us all the way to the Fall Major finals in our first year.
Leading with a 2 - 0 record in the preseason, the team remained undefeated in play throughout the Fall Season in the High School Esports League. The team made it to the finals in a well-fought match and lost 2 - 1 in a best of three. The top-two placement earned the team a berth to the first-ever 2022 eSports Nationals taking place in May.
