Jacob Jun is an award-winning instructor whose teaching career began in Seoul, South Korea, in 2007 with the Chung Dahm Institute, a private academy for English learners.
In 2008, Jacob moved over to KoreaPolySchool where he worked as an editor and writer for the R&D department, which was responsible for creating textbooks, assessments, and supplemental materials for English learners all over the country.
After opening up his own photography/videography studio (Candor Studios), Jacob returned to part-time teaching in 2015 with the Salinas Union High School District. His first classes included Broadcast and Cinema Arts for the Mission Trails ROP program at Alisal High School. A year later, Computer Science courses were added to his schedule, making him a full-time teacher.
Jacob then received training as a coach and CM educator, and he was also designated as a webmaster for MTROP.
After teaching in Salinas for two years, Jacob moved to Gonzales High School in Gonzales, California, where he taught several media courses (Intro to Media Careers, Broadcast, Cinema Arts) and various computer science courses (Exploring Computer Science, Intro to Computer Science, AP Principles, AP A) over his four-year tenure.
In addition to being an instructor, Jacob worked as the school advisor for both SkillsUSA and MESA . His SkillsUSA Broadcast teams have made it to state every year in which he has participated, and his 2020 team received the bronze medal at the California State competition in Ontario, California. His 2021 team scored the highest score at Regionals, but the year was unfortunately cut short due to COVID.
At the beginning of the 2020 school year, Jacob received the Monterey Bay CUE Affiliate Emerging Teacher of the Year Award. At the end of that year, he was selected as one of the inaugural recipients of the Amazon Future Engineer Teacher of the Year Award.
During the following 2021 school year, he launched the school's eSports program which became the first on-campus eSports team in the Monterey County with technical support from the Monterey County Office of Education and a scholarship from PlayVS.
During the fall of 2021, Jacob returned to his home district. In his first year back, he taught at Salinas High School (his alma mater) and at Rancho San Juan while also fulfilling EdTech duties at Mission Trails ROP.
Jacob is now in his 10th year of teaching, and he is currently full-time at Rancho San Juan High School.
