Hi!, My name is Juan Pablo Arévalo Sevilla and I have been working as a teacher in Colegio San Agustín, a bilingual school in Linares (south of Spain) for 20 years (and counting!). Besides, I am the the bilingual coordinator and the Erasmus+ coordinator at the school. I have been working in it for 20 years.
As the bilingual and Erasmus+ programmes coordinator at the school, teaching foreign languages and integrating their learning in our curriculum is key in my daily work.
Stressing the importance of using foreign languages to my students is paramount to me, not only to expand their knowledge of the languages themselves, but also as a way to learn more about different cultures and develop their intellectual skills in a continuous manner.
As a teacher in bilingual areas of Social and Natural Sciences in all levels of Primary Education (from 1st to 6th grades) for the last 10 years, I have had the chance to use learning material from different publishers.
The time spent on teaching these areas worked as a self-training process for me in CLIL methodology methodology, while it also gave me the chance to act as a trainer in this same matter in several schools from Andalusia, the Canary Islands and Extremadura.
I am quite familiar with the Social & Natural Science approach developed by Cambridge University Press since its deployment in Spanish educational curriculum.
Regarding the new law, not only have I read it, but also attended some of the meetings held by the body in charge of educational changes in Andalusian region and by my school board.
As per the above and after attending several meetings with many school management bodies from different educational centre and teachers working with bilingual areas on a daily basis, I decided to develop the one designed by Cambridge University Press and the potential applicable as per the current educational law.
Being familiar with the Social and Natural Science curriculum from Cambridge University Press in all Primary school levels is an advantage. Its strengths can actually be leveraged and the possible improvement areas adapted as per the current LOMLOE regulations. Below sections try to explain how the new regulations can be linked with the relevant aspects already in place within Cambridge University Press program (to be applied in the design of didactic units), as well as further describe the working methodology set out above.
