Subject Overview
The Arts gives all students the chance to explore and enjoy the Arts as both creators and audiences. Through hands-on activities, sensory experiences and fun learning opportunities, students build their understanding of different Arts subjects and develop skills to create, improve and share their own artworks. The content is delivered with consideration to four areas of focus and assessment. These include exploring, developing practices, creating, and presenting. Visual Arts helps students explore art and craft in creative and meaningful ways. Students learn by making, discussing and thinking about artworks to share ideas, feelings and stories. They develop creative skills and learn how art can support personal wellbeing, culture, communities and even jobs and industries.
In Visual Arts, students experiment with different materials, techniques, and ideas to solve problems and express themselves. They learn to make connections between their own experiences and the wider world while building practical art skills and creative thinking. By looking at and talking about artworks and artists, students learn to understand and respect different cultures, styles and influences. They explore why artists create art, who it is for, and how art can communicate important ideas and meanings across different times and places.
