The History Museum of South Bend

Our research will culminate in an exhibit at The History Museum of South Bend. We have unfortunately had to postpone our opening from May 2020 to a later date due to COVID-19.

Working with The History Museum of South Bend was an opportunity for our team to learn new skills related to museum work and expand the impact of our research and project through a museum exhibit. Our exhibit will tell stories of displacement using the archives of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. The exhibit is an opportunity to weave all four conflicts together to expand upon ideas about displacement and its effects. We link the U.S. Civil War, the Cambodian Refugee Crisis, the Lebanese Civil War and the El Salvadoran Civil War through archival documents and artefacts. This is an opportunity to showcase the work the sisters have done globally, but also raise awareness about the global displacement crisis.

Besides museum members, we have worked with Saint Mary's College to include students, faculty and the Sisters of the Holy Cross to coordinate visits. Our other community partners, like the URC, will also help to raise awareness about the exhibit, which will be on display for several months.

When it is safe to host our museum opening, we will gather to both open the museum exhibit to the public and offer a presentation on our research. We are looking forward to engaging with the community and sharing our hard work!
