My first idea paper was written with the intention of drawing focus to the character of Calypso as she appears throughout Homer's Odyssey. I argued that Calypso's feelings for Odysseus were genuine and that releasing him from her island prison was, in a sense, an act of love. This was backed by evidence of the treatment of mortals by Olympians throughout the source text.
My second ideas paper was written with a focus on my plan for a longer paper devoted to exploring the fictional relationship between Circe, of Madeline Miller's Circe, and the poet Sappho. What drew me to write about these two women were the stunning parallels that I observed when learning about their lives (fictional or otherwise) and I wanted to dedicate this paper to my plans for moving forward with a creative re-telling of Sappho's life through the writing styles used by Miller in her novel, Circe.
