In contemporary Anglicanism, a general term which covers not only servers, torchbearers, and lighters of candles but also crucifers, thurifers, and banner-bearers. At Saint Luke’s acolytes serve at the Sunday morning services carrying the crosses, and torches. They offer the offertory plates and receive the elements while serving as worship leaders for the congregation. Youth acolytes are placed on a team with at least four other acolytes and scheduled to serve approximately once per seven weeks for the full year (September-June) . A volunteer group of the parish whose ministry is to care for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens of the parish. Altar Guild members prepare the sanctuary for services, and clean up afterwards. At Saint Luke’s the altar guild prepars the Altar for services each Sunday, setting out the Eucharistic vessels, bread and wine, and cleaning up after services. Altar Guild Junior Members (youth), are responsible for lighting the candles before the service, putting them out after the service, and helping clean-up afterwards.

Children’s Chapel is held during the first half of the service for children ages 1st- 5th grade. They read the lessons, have a children’s homily, and sing. Helpers make sure the children are singing and participating by leading by example. At Saint Luke’s Children’s Chapel takes place every Sunday at the 10am service, from 10-10:30, with the Children rejoining their parents at the peace. Helpers must meet with Miss Erika before their first Sunday.

Flower Guild members frequently supervise the decoration of the sanctuary of the parish with flowers. At Saint Luke’s the Flower Guild builds arrangements for the service each week, then arranges them into small arrangements to send to the sick and homebound members of the church. Junior Flower Guild Members (youth) help with breaking down the large arrangement and making the smaller arrangements to go to homebound parishioners.

A lay person trained in reading scripture who is appointed by the clergy person in charge of the congregation to read lessons or lead the prayers of the people. The term is from the Latin, “to read.” A lector may also be known as a reader. 

At Saint Luke’s lay assistants read the lessons and offer the prayers of the people at every service. Youth lectors will be assigned a team and scheduled to read approximately once every seven weeks. Schedules are sent out for three-month periods and substitutes are available. Students are sent the reading on the Thursday before their Sunday. 

Time: 8am, 10am, or 5pm service

Frequency- Max 1x a week, 1hr a week. Students are assigned a worship team and will be scheduled approximately once per every seven weeks. Students may join a team for any of the Sunday worship services.

At Saint Luke’s there are several choirs. There are two younger children’s choirs, one youth choir, and the adult choir. The middle school and high school youth choir have rehearsals on Thursdays and with the option to sing at the 10am service. There are also Evensongs held on throughout the year on Saturday evenings, students who participate in these will recieve an additional hour. 

Time: Rehearsals Thursday at 7pm, sing at 10am on Sundays

Frequency- Up to 2hrs/ week. Students receive an hour for rehearsal and an hour for each worship service.

The Ushers often serve as the first contact someone has when entering the building for worship, as they greet people with a warm welcome, provide them with the Sunday bulletin, and direct them to the pews or other location (i.e. parish hall or restrooms). In addition, the ushers provide the clergy with a formal count of attendance, direct people to the Communion rail to receive the Eucharist, and also aid anyone who might require special assistance or need emergency care.

At Saint Luke’s the Ushers Serve on a team to greet the congregation, collect the offering, and guide parishioners up for Communion. Youth ushers will be assigned a team in September and be scheduled to serve every six to eight weeks. Students may sign up to serve on an usher team at the 8, 10, or 5pm. 

Time:  7:45-8:45, 9:30am-11am or 4:45-6pm (CAYA)

Frequency- Once every 6-8 weeks. Students sign-up in September to join a team then serve throughout the year when their team is scheduled.
