Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of housing per semester?

Housing rates have not increased for the 2024-2025 academic year! The cost of living on campus differs depending on which campus you elect to live on, however, those costs have not increased from the last academic year:

I'd like a single room. How do I get one?

Single rooms in Troy are limited and likely will only be available to students who have documentation through the Office of Accessibility Services for a medical single. Students working with the Office of Accessibility Services must have completed documentation submitted to Cait York by April 1.  Any single rooms remaining after medical singles have been placed will be part of the general housing lottery.

UHCS also offers single rooms within 4-bedroom suites. This building is a great option for students who would like a single room and semi-private bathroom. Students may opt to live on either campus, regardless of their major.

I want to live in a double or triple room. How can I do that?

Rooms must be filled to capacity. You will be able to select a room in the housing selection process if you are in a resident group that matches the capacity of the room. For example, to select a triple room, you will need a group of 3 students. To select a double room, you will need a group of 2 students.

What about UHCS? How can I pick a room there?

Suites in UHCS must be filled to capacity as well. You will be able to select a room in the housing selection process if you are in a resident group that matches the capacity of the room. For UHCS, this means that you will need a group of 4 students to select a room in UHCS.

I don't have enough students for my resident group. What do I do?

Residence Life will be hosting roommate mixers during the week of March 25 for students to meet other students searching for roommates to complete their groups! Check out the Important Dates and Events page for more information.

Also, new this year on ResLife Portal is a feature that will help you find a roommate if you are still searching for one! Once you have logged in, use the "Preference Attributes" and "Roommate Matching" buttons to find compatible roommates!

What about meal plans? What options are available?

Available to all students and required for resident students; our meal plan options provide you with meal swipe access to the McKinstry Dining Hall and Kahl Campus Center as well as Bonus Dining Dollars that can be spent like cash at all on-campus dining locations. These meal plans have been designed to appeal to the wide variety of student schedules and dietary needs. More information on these new meal plans can be found on our Meal Plan Options page.

I currently live on campus, what do I need to do to participate in room reservation?

In order to receive a lottery number, current resident students must ensure they have completed the following actions:

*While it is important to submit your FAFSA, due to delays in colleges receiving FAFSA data, this will not be a factor when it comes to students being eligible to select a room for the 2024-2025 academic year. For more information, check out Sage's financial aid webpage: https://www.sage.edu/admission/financial-aid/what-to-know-about-the-new-free-application-for-federal-student-aid-fafsa/

How are lottery numbers determined?

Students who have completed the above tasks will be assigned a lottery number. Lottery numbers are assigned by class standing, randomized within each of the following: seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen.

Credit hours are calculated based on total completed credits as of December 2023 and class standing is assigned using the parameters set by the Registrar's office:

Seniors: 87+ completed credits

Juniors: 54-86 completed credits

Sophomores: 24-53 completed credits

Freshmen: 0-23 completed credits

I currently commute, but want to live on campus for Fall 2024. What do I need to do to participate in room reservation?

In order to receive a lottery number, current commuter students must complete our Commuter Lottery Number Request Form in addition to the following actions:

*While it is important to submit your FAFSA, due to delays in colleges receiving FAFSA data, this will not be a factor when it comes to students being eligible to select a room for the 2024-2025 academic year. How will room reservation work? Will it be held in-person or online?

In 2020, the Office of Residence Life made the transition to an online service called ResLife Portal for room reservation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have continued to use this product for all housing selections since!

More information on the virtual room selection process can be found on our ResLife Portal Room Reservation Process page.
