Subject: IMPORTANT ROOM RESERVATION INFORMATION FOR FALL 2024

Dear Students,

Although it seems like the spring semester just began, it is already time to start thinking about where you'll be living this fall! The Office of Residence Life is writing to provide you with some important updates regarding housing availability for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Of most significance is the closure of Manning Hall in August 2024. Both Scrimshaw and Manning Halls will close in August upon the completion of the renovation of John Paine Hall. At that time all of the health science classrooms and offices located in Scrimshaw and Manning will be moved to updated spaces in Paine. The College is evaluating the future need for and use of these buildings. Housing in Manning and Scrimshaw will be absorbed into the existing Troy housing footprint or to University Heights College Suites in Albany for those interested in suite style housing.

Upperclassmen students may opt to live on either campus, regardless of their major. To help us plan for your housing needs, please complete the Fall 2024 intention form here: https://forms.gle/vSnbAjuvgmJLiVGC9

In the upcoming room selection process for the 2024-2025 academic year, students opting to live on the Troy campus will be able to select from the following buildings:

We will continue to offer the following specialty housing options in Troy, with applications for these communities opening soon: Multicultural Housing, Honors Housing, Pet Friendly Housing, and Gender Affirming Housing.

First-year students in Troy will continue to be housed in Kellas Hall in the upcoming year. Graduate Housing will be transitioned to Wool House at the conclusion of the Spring 2024 semester.

In considering the building and room availability on the Troy campus, the following items will be important to keep in mind as you begin to think about where you may want to live:

Albany campus housing will remain the same with first year housing in Albany Campus Residence Hall (ACRH) and upperclassmen student housing in University Heights College Suites (UHCS). Suites in Albany must be filled to capacity. Students opting to live in University Heights College Suites should plan to select their suites in groups of 4.

Lottery numbers will be assigned based on the number of completed credits, and students will be eligible to select a room if they have completed the following:

Keep an eye on your email for more detailed information regarding the room selection process coming soon!

Best,

Grace Giancola

Subject: Room Reservation Timeline

Dear Students,

Over the past few years, the Office of Residence Life has changed the room selection process from an in-person event to an online process through a partnership with ResLife Portal. Upperclassmen students may opt to live on either campus, regardless of their major. To help us plan for your housing needs, please complete the Fall 2024 intention form here if you have not already: https://forms.gle/vSnbAjuvgmJLiVGC9

Room Selection will take place during the week of April 8, 2024. Here are some important dates to keep in mind for the next few weeks:

To select a triple room, you will need a group of 3 students. To select a double room, you will need a group of 2 students. To select a UHCS suite, you will need a group of 4 students.

Subject: ResLife Portal Open to Create Resident Groups & Select Meal Plans

Dear Students,

You should have received your lottery number on Friday via email. As of today, April 1, 2024, the ResLife Portal is open and available for you to begin selecting your meal plan and creating your resident groups in preparation to select your room when the housing lottery opens on April 8, 2024.

To select your meal plan and create a resident group, follow the directions below:

Creating a resident group will alter your lottery number as you add students to your group, changing based on the lowest lottery number in the group. Please note that having a resident group allows all group members to select their room at the indicated lottery number. All group members must select their own room.

PLEASE NOTE: Rooms must be filled to capacity. You will be able to select a room in the housing selection process if you are in a resident group that matches the capacity of the room. To select a double room, you will need a group of 2 students; to select a triple room, you will need a group of 3 students. To select a UHCS suite, you will need a group of 4 students.

New this year is a feature in the ResLife Portal that will help you find a roommate if you are still searching for one! Once you have logged in, use the "Preference Attributes" and "Roommate Matching" buttons to find compatible roommates!

If you have completed all of the items necessary to reserve a room, you will receive an email from the system when your lottery number is activated prompting you to sign on to the system using your Sage email and password through Google. As mentioned, as of today, April 1, you have access to the portal to select your meal plan or create resident groups, but will be unable to select a room until the lottery queue begins on April 8.

More information on the dates of housing lottery, creating a roommate group, and housing options available on each campus can be found here: Room Reservation Guide

If you have any questions, please reach out to a member of the Residence Life staff. Please note that we are experiencing a large volume of calls and emails at this time, so we appreciate your patience with our response time!
