It was effective to use the Goals and Objectives page to match daily tasks in the Time log, and it made sure that all requirements for the capstone project were fulfilled. This project's major element has been the Symptom Management Resource and has remained the primary focus of the capstone. Connecting the Goals and Objectives into the Time Log ensured that the Symptom Management Resource was actively achieving its goals and outcomes. The project's success depended heavily on consulting with a person with YOPD as well as an occupational therapist. Although challenging, combining the views of people with YOPD with evidence-based practice was crucial to the project's success and the community's benefit.
During the experience, I developed an in-service presentation. The purpose of the in service material I created was to inform medical professionals about the subtle differences between PD and YOPD. It is not practical for health care workers to absorb and remember the initial Inservice material, which seemed like a systematic evaluation of all PD research. It was determined that the information may be unconsumable for medical professionals due to time constraints, and that the information may be more beneficial for newly diagnosed individuals with YOPD. When this outcome was not achievable, the targeted audience of the material was reformatted. Now, the purpose of this text is to inform those who have just received a YOPD diagnosis about the specifics of their illness as well as crucial information for healthcare settings. People diagnosed with PD and YOPD express a need for more reading and information on their conditions, particularly when first diagnosed. This educational booklet will be available on amazon and recorded in the form of a podcast to ensure accessibility to the information, and sustainability of the document.
It was challenging to get responses from medical professionals and to get post-survey feedback from people with YOPD. About ten people responded to each of these questionnaires, which makes it challenging to analyze the data and draw broad conclusions about the initiative. It may have been a mistake to initially divide the Symptom Management Resource from the Pre survey since the pre-survey was rather effective at attracting participants. Additionally, as this project was resource and educational booklet heavy, it became challenging to obtain feedback on large documents due to the time constraints of my mentors. It is unreasonable to expect a large time commitment to providing feedback in a short turnover time. If this capstone was to be run again, I would complete all educational material prior to capstone, so that the capstone time could be used for additional time receiving and applying feedback on the developed resources.
