Camping With Ease is a Yagan Tower project with the aim of being a relaxing piece for people to view. It subverts the mainstream by having no violence, drama or conflict and instead focuses its efforts on aesthetics to create and calming and enjoyable mood.
The idea for this project came from my love of camping. Every year my family and I will go down south camping where we spend our days relaxing and doing what we feel like with no planned agenda. In a world where we are expected to be always on and working it is nice to be forced to take a break from it all where I can enjoy myself and spend time with my family.
I hope to be able to share this calming and relaxing feeling that I get when camping with the people of Yagan Square through my project.
The Audio was done by Sophie Dolan and the background skies were made by Liam Andrews.

I started this project by making a bunch of concept art of the characters and composition. I wanted there to be a girl, birds and another animal to walk around the scene. I decided upon an echidna as they kind of waddle when they walk which I thought would be endearing for the audience.
I had the idea to have a four scene project where the scenes are the different times of day. This allows me to plan out each characters day so that I can have them in different places every scene as if they were going about doing their daily activities.
After I did all of my concept work I drew up a rough sketch of the scene and started on the early rough animations. I wanted to make the background assets in Illustrator as I wanted to be able to create a clean and smooth cartoon like look. The designs of the characters and background assets were all designed to be smooth and flowy to help to create a calming and relaxing aesthetic.
After I created all of the background assets I imported them into Animate and created the final character animations around the assets. I then put everything into Aftereffects to do the fades and make the trees sway.
I had a lot of fun with this project and am really happy with the end product. Thank you to Sophie Dolan, Liam Andrews, Casey Renzullo, Erik G. Bibaeff and Taylor Robins for working on this project with me.
My main focus this trimester was 2D animation, more specifically exaggerated movement. I made a lot of roughs from a waddling duck to a character dancing to someone playing badminton.
This trimester I also entered into the Eleven Second March competition. You can see most of my entry in this showreel.
Make sure to keep watching until the very end. I always hide something after the end credits scene.
This Trimester I created an animated opening for a documentary called The Voice Of Our Youth. This documentary is about protesters fighting to get their voices heard about climate change.
In it I edited footage that I was provided with and did actual stop motion animation with a tripod and camera.
This was a lot of fun to work on.
