How do you analyse musical and creative ideas of a genre and apply them to a new piece of media?
This assignment requires the you to reinterpret (or adapt) an existing song into a new work that is representative of another distinctive genre or style.
You will need to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the elements that define each of the two genres that each piece represents in order to create an effective re-interpretation.
The original work must still be recognisable in your re-interpretation but its artistic context must be removed and replaced by those from a new style/genre
The re-interpretation should demonstrate both creative flair and technical excellence
Students must choose an existing song as their reference song that will be reinterpreted into a new genre. Students must have only 1 or 2 key reference tracks for the new genre the song will become.
Students must complete:
A detailed genre analysis (not a track teardown) for the original genre
A detailed genre analysis for the new genre
A pre-production plan for the project including:
Synopsis of the project concept (linking to Genre Analysis journal pages)
Detailed equipment list
Detailed timeline of the project
Risk Mitigation Plan
Hypothetical Business Plan info (detailed in CLO6)
