The following technology will be used in this class. If you are not familiar with it, be sure to view the quick tutorials before getting started.
Please be reminded that you will encounter tech issues from time to time, especially when working in an online platform where one is completely dependent on technology to access information. Below are tutorials and links to support for each additional technology used in this class. If you encounter problems, feel free to post on the Raise your Hand discussion board.
This page lists the browsers that Canvas supports. You will have fewer technical difficulties if you use one of these browsers.

Walk-up student computing help desks are available on campus at Saddleback at: BGS 248 computer lab & the library computer lab
To help you learn about your virtual classroom we've provided you with this short set of tutorials to teach you about Canvas. It's important to start off on the right foot, and these short video tutorials will help you learn how to get the most from this online environment, from reading content to posting discussions and submitting assignments. The tutorial videos can be viewed in any order.
Canvas Student Tour Videos (These will open in a new window. Total viewing time for all videos is ~ 35 minutes)
New to Canvas? I highly recommend checking out these helpful video tutorials.
Please see the Canvas Student Quickstart Guide or go to the comprehensive Canvas Student Guide
If Canvas misbehaves, tell them about it. Click on the Help link in the Canvas navigation bar to contact the Canvas 24/7 Phone Support.
Also, check that you have the correct technical requirements to ensure you can access Canvas, successfully.
Post your question on the Raise your hand discussion board. Feel free to help one another out by responding to questions posted there. I will be monitoring communications there and will respond to unanswered questions within 48 hours on weekdays. Weekends may take a little longer.
The open office hours will be held through Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/912307453. Zoom offers free unlimited conferences for 2 people, plus free 40 minutes sessions for groups,
All papers will be written in Google Drive. We will also have assignments that require making or using gSheets, gDraw, gSlides, and gSites. One digital portfolio option is built in a Google Site.
It is recommended to install the Kahoot! App on your phone; we play 5-6 games throughout the semester.

Mindomo is an option for critical responses and may be used for organizing research sources and ideas in paper 3.
While not required, the free version of Monosnap is an easy program for taking screenshots and video on your computer, which offers more options for discussions and responses, and it can be found in the App Store on Macs.
We use a number of Youtube videos for this class, and occasionally offer students a chance to make their own videos and post them to assignments. Optionally, if you want to take your videos onto Youtube or create your own channel, you can.
You will want to sign up for Padlet. A free account should be fine; this is used in class to document discussions.
RefWorks is the Resource Information System (RIS) offered by Saddleback's Library to students for free. It maintains sources and converts to a wide variety of source structures.
Resources from Rocketbook
Some assignments allow for hand drawn/handwritten options, but photos are often a pain for uploading to the Course Learning Module System (LMS). If you use a Rocketbook (https://getrocketbook.com/) or the printable Rocketbooks pages, then the Rocketbook App makes digitizing your work a piece of cake for uploading it.
Resource pages (8 ½ x 11)
Trello is offered on the Critical Response Menu, we have a reading that is posted on a Trello Board, and we may use Trello for an assignment.
We will be using TurnItIn through Canvas for paper final drafts and the TurnItIn Sandbox. Please note: on Canvas, TurnItIn won't load correctly unless it's on Chrome. Also, If Google Drive doesn't connect correctly, the easiest workaround is to download or export gDocs from Google Drive as PDFs, then upload the PDF to TurnItIn.
