Canvas Guides

If this is your first time using Canvas, you may find that you have questions about how things work. Technical Difficulties

If you experience any technical problems, please use the Help icon on the far-left menu in Canvas for a variety of options.

Update Your Profile

Consider taking a minute to update your Canvas Account profile. For example, you might edit your display name or upload a profile picture or avatar.

Verify Your Contact Methods

Please briefly verify and if necessary, update your contact methods in your Canvas Account Settings. You can update your email address or add your cell phone number for text message alerts.

Set Your Notifications

Canvas allows you to customize how and when you would like to receive notifications from the course. Please review and adjust your notification preferences.

You will want to check your notification preferences and edit them so that you know when I have graded assignments and made comments on your work.

Steps to Change Notifications Options

1. Access the notifications menu by clicking on the account icon. In the screenshot below, the account icon is labeled #1 and the notifications menu #2.

2. Once you click on the notifications menu, look at your settings. Scroll down and locate Submission Comment; select your desired frequency of notification. I suggest you set this to Notify me right away so that you are notified when I have made a comment on your work. Below is a screenshot from my account showing the notification options. The Submission Comment is indicated with a red arrow.

3. The green box indicates the selected preference. A key to the icons is listed at the top of the page: Notify me right away, Send a daily summary; Send a weekly summary, and Do not send anything.

4. Review the other notification options and select your preference.
