Teachers and staff are using a few different ways to connect with students by video conference. Please find below tips and resources for using these programs/applications.
When participating in a video conference, there are a few important guidelines that will help everyone have a successful learning opportunity:
Mute yourself when you are not speaking, this ensures that background noise will not interfere with the audio of the meeting.
Use ear buds, head sets, or headphones when you can. This further reduces background noise in the discussion and can help you to hear better as well. Just make sure whatever you use has a microphone so that you can still participate.
Use the chat box for on-task, topic-related conversations. Please keep side conversations to a minimum.
We know you can see yourself on the video, remember everyone else can too. It is fun to make faces in the camera and see them, but remember that everyone else is watching too and it could distract you and others from learning.
Use chat, hand raising, and other tools available to participate in sessions beyond just your own microphone.
Zoom will be used for any video conferencing in MSAD 15. Zoom meetings can be accessed from virtually any device. Software can be downloaded on laptops or desktops, phones and tablets access is provided via app, and meetings can be joined via the web as well.
Students/families should not need to set up an account in order to participate in zoom sessions, they should be able to participate as a guest by using the meeting link from teachers and staff.
See this video for guidance for a quick guide on joining a Zoom session.
This link provides a more detailed overviewing or joining and participating in a Zoom meeting.
If you can connect to a video conference (Hangouts or Zoom) but others cannot see or hear you, you may need to allow permissions for your camera and microphone.
Scroll down the following link to the section on "Editing permissions". You have to give permission for "zoom.us" to use the microphone and camera.
Also to check: when in a video conference (or any website really) , click on the little "Lock" icon in the URL bar of your Chrome browser (to the left of the website address). That will also tell you if something is blocked or not.
