Part 3: Tips for Students
Part 4: Parental Notifications
Google Classroom is a tool which allows students and teachers to connect while not directly in a classroom. Google Classroom was utilized by many of our teachers before our current at-home learning experiences. Many of our students have had at least one teacher who has utilized this online classroom tool.
Teachers can post:
Assignments and Resources:
Example: Read this website and find information
Messages:
Example: Don't forget to finish your slideshow
Quizzes and Tests
Example: Multiple choice quiz on science topics
When a student logs into Google Classroom, they can select classes they are part of. Inside of a class, they see (something similar to) the picture to the right.
The four main tabs in a Classroom are:
Stream: This is an area which holds all messages and notifications. This area can be confusing and we encourage students to just read announcements the teachers have shared.
Classwork: This area is what we want students to focus on. The Classwork area contains all assignments, resources, and assessments teachers share with students.
People: This area simply shows others in the class
Grades: The Grades area is where students can see teacher-generated grades. Note: Not all assignments are graded, and teachers will still be using PowerSchool to report most graded items.
Focus on the "Classwork" tab on each class. Look at the "Stream" tab only for teacher messages.
Read the description of every assignment. This will give you any directions to complete your assignment.
Keep track of your assignments. Use your assignment notebook or Google calendar to enter due dates.
Contact your teachers if you don't understand something. A quick email is a great way to ask for help.

Note: If students feel their email is overwhelmed with all the notifications from Classroom, students can turn off email notifications from their Google Classroom Settings. If this setting is turned off, however, students will be responsible to check their Google Classroom for new assignments as they many not receive notice that a new assignment or resource was added.
You can choose whether you receive notifications for a specific class. For example, if you don’t want any notifications for your Math class, you can turn them off, but you’ll still get notifications for your other classes.
Note: If you turn off notifications for a class, all notifications for that class are turned off.
Go to classroom.google.com.

Click Settings.
(You might need to scroll down.)
