Your teachers have been working very hard to make this shift to at-home learning. This means you are receiving a large number of emails and invitations. Here are some tips for keeping yourself organized, while managing all of your classes.
Use a calendar.
It can be your planner, Google Calendar, or a different calendar, whatever works for you.
Keep your calendar near you when you check your emails.
Set a time to check your emails and get organized. This could be first thing in the morning or last thing in the afternoon/evening.
When you open your emails, write events/assignments in your calendar AS YOU ARE READING THE MESSAGE. This will ensure that you aren’t missing due dates or virtual class meetings.
Make a To Do list for each day/week, whichever works best for you.
Sometimes it won’t be possible to be online during a particular class time. Making a list helps you stay on track.
When you complete a task, cross it off the list.
Items that are parts of larger projects can be added in a different color or highlighted to indicate that it is an ongoing project. Write the date the project is due to help you stay on track.
Break larger assignments into smaller chunks.
Write the due date for the whole assignment in your calendar, to create a project window.
Look at ways to make smaller assignments within the project.
Assign due dates for the smaller assignments within the project window.
Create a work space in your house.
This space could be the dining room or kitchen table, a desk, coffee table, etc.
When you are working, go to that space.
Your work space should have all of the materials you need to complete your work.
As much as you can, your work space should have a minimal distractions.
Pay attention to your posture as you are working. Your screen should be eye level when you are seated comfortably.
Take breaks.
Rest your eyes, move your body, get a snack, or drink some water. This will be a significant amount of time in front of a screen. It’s important to take care of yourself.
Check in with your teachers on days you have class.
Sometimes it won’t be possible to be online during a particular class time. Checking in allows your teachers to know that you are engaged, the timing just isn’t working for you.
Show your face when you are in Hangout and Zoom meetings.
We miss you!
Interacting and seeing others is an important part of our school day.
