Teacher of the Year

Teacher of the Year: Mr. Jason Beer

Every year, schools across the country recognize one teacher within their buildings and honor their work by recognizing them as "Teacher of the Year." Each school district then selects one of those building-level teachers to represent them as district Teacher of the Year. For the 2021-2022 school year, Southwest Allen County Schools nominated English teacher Jason Beer as the district Teacher of the Year. As a result, he was placed in the running for the STATE Teacher of the Year title.

Once entered at the state level, The Indiana Department of Education bases their selection for state Teacher of the Year on who they feel demonstrates a passion for inspiring and going above and beyond to educate students. Homestead would like to congratulate Mr. Beer for placing top 3 in the state for Teacher of the Year! The Indiana Department of Education will announce the state Teacher of the Year recipient some time in October.

For those of you in our community who have never met Mr. Beer or have never seen him in action, he is diligent in everything he does. Mr. Beer demonstrates a true passion for teaching as he values more than just his lesson plans. In his classroom, students are welcomed into a safe environment to share their thoughts and ideas. He never turns down a chance to receive thoughtful feedback from his students and even adapts lessons based on how the students respond. Each and every lesson plan is made with his students in mind in order to provide the best experience possible in his classroom. He makes it a point that he would never assign something to his students that he would never complete himself. Students benefit greatly in the writing process, especially in the two courses he has created himself: Travel Writing and Novel & Screenwriting. Students walk out of his classroom each day empowered to take on the world because he has taken the time to let each and every one of his students know how much they are valued.

He is deserving of being in the top 3 in the state, and Homestead supports him as he competes for Indiana's TOY title.

Congratulations Mr. Beer!
