EXPERIENCE
When I was young, I wanted to be a sports broadcaster. Midway through college I decided instead of pursuing the broadcasting dream to pursue teaching it. I was hired by Homestead right after I graduated college and began my career of teaching high school Radio and TV. I still had interest in being on air and calling sporting events, so I worked part-time for a few radio stations calling local sporting events and eventually working up to hosting my own weekly sports talk show on ESPN Radio. I’ve gotten to attend some major sporting events as a member of the media and interview some big names in the sports world, including Peyton Manning, Chipper Jones, Andrew Luck, Tony Dungy, Matt Painter and Tom Izzo. Everything I’ve learned in the “real world” of radio has been brought back to the classroom for the benefit of Homestead students. In the last few years we have transitioned Radio and TV to Digital Media and introduced many new elements to the aspiring broadcasters of Homestead, including Homestead Live, our live video streaming program.
WHY DO I TEACH?
First and foremost, I have a passion for what I do. I feel energized every morning driving to school by what I can bring to the classroom that day. I feel my calling is to ignite my students imagination and inspire them into accomplishing things they didn’t even know existed inside them. As Albert Einstein once said, “it is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge,” that’s what I strive to do each day.
