We want YOU to let us know about all the awesome things you do both in and outside of school! It could be doing a cool research project, serving the community in a unique way, being involved in an arts performance, and so much more! Click the link below to let us know about the awesome ways you are showcasing your talents, and you could be featured here in our monthly newsletter and in our new "Wall of Fame" by the 500's hallways!

The Community Harvest Food Bank: Drive Donations

The Community Harvest Food Bank helps approximately 90,000 people a year. The food bank alleviates hunger for many people who are in various circumstances. Last year 14,865,333 meals were distributed to people in need from the cans that people donated around the area. The Community Harvest food bank serves 9 area counties. The difference in donating even one food item can make the world for someone in need. The Community Harvest Food Bank saves lives.

Because they wanted to help The Community Harvest Food Bank in their efforts, Homestead's Key Club started a canned food drive contest in which classrooms all competed to see who could bring in the most cans.  The results of the drive have proven to be more than successful. In 4 weeks' time, Homestead students donated an amazing 4,148 cans of food.

Here are the top three classes with the most donations:

1st place = Dr. Klein with 52.71 cans per student

2nd place = Mrs. Koehrn with 23.23 cans per student

3rd place = Mr. Koehlinger with 22.71 cans per student

Mr. Harkness and Mrs. Behrens' classes came in close behind Mr. Koehlinger with 19.81 and 14.91 cans per student.

One student in particular, senior Ian Griffin, has shown his integrity and determination to help people in need within the community by donating over 200 cans of food to Mrs. Klein's fifth-period donations. He did this by using coupons and buying out several brands of products at a number of Fort Wayne Kroger locations.  Ian's clever thinking and generous heart will go a long way to helping those in need.

Great job Spartans. Thanks to our students and staff's support, the Community Harvest Food Bank will be able to help even more people in need!

Key Club Makes a Difference

In March, Homestead students engaged in a friendly competition between their fifth-period classes to see which class could collect the most cans of food for Community Harvest Food Bank. By the end of the competition, Homestead students were able to collect more than 2 tons of food to donate to those in need! This would not have been made possible without the Key Club Officers who worked hard raising money, setting up, and running the contest. Homestead would like to give special thanks to these individuals for having such a positive impact on our community: Madeline Phoung, Yeyoon Song, Mackenzie McConahay, Adrienne Creech, and Hannah Shaw.

Riley Dance Marathon

Homestead Spartans got together and danced a Friday night away for a good cause. The 2023 HHS Riley Children's Hospital Dance Marathon was a fun-filled evening of dancing, games, raffles, and good food... culminating with the announcement that $21, 806.00 had been raised in support of the hospital and everything they do for children and their families. Guest speakers whose lives had been impacted by illness or injury shared their inspirational stories of triumph and courage, which made all of the hard work that had gone into planning this event and raising the funds for this donation very meaningful for all of those who participated. Thanks to everyone involved with this important event... and if you missed it... be sure to attend the 2024 HHSDM next March!

March Madness in Spartan Arena

Homestead Spartans had a great time battling it out to determine the Notorious Netters and Dirty Duckers Champions of 2023.

Taste of Homestead

Homestead welcomed the community to the HHS cafeteria on March 15th to sample food from around the world. This year we had 44 booths where guests could select appetizers, entrees and desserts - all prepared by m 100 students who participated in the event this year. In addition to the tasty treats, students shared what they had learned while researching the country or culture from which their food originated.
