Homestead High Jumper Earns Medal at New Balance Nationals Despite Stolen Gear
Student Ethan Widenhoefer (Grade 11) attended the New Balance Nationals for the high jump in track & field. Ethan and his mom flew out to Boston to be part of this extraordinary athletic opportunity. An hour before the meet began, Ethan's gear was stolen. A fellow competitor stepped up and loaned shoes to Ethan, and despite being a half size too small, he rose to the occasion. Ethan ended up setting a new personal best at 6'7'' despite the setback. After the meet, a New Balance representative was so moved by Ethan's story, he sent him new gear. Ethan won a national medal as an All-American and was given brand-new gear because of his positive attitude.
Congratulations Ethan!
