show choir season begins

The Show Choir competition season officially begins this month! Homestead's show choirs are know for their excellence, and this year is like no other. The Homestead Classic will be February 3rd and 4th right here at Homestead.

Freshman Ella Antibus is excited for the competitions. Growing up around show choir, Ella watched her older sister perform and saw how fun it is. Now in high school, Ella looks forward to competing herself, and her biggest goal is to see growth in the group throughout the season. She looks up to the upperclassmen specifically because they have helped be a guide through the transition to high school Show Choir.

Senior Emily Adams is in her fourth year of Show Choir at Homestead. She started Show Choir in middle school at Woodside where she fell in love with being on stage. She looks forward to competing at Pendleton, Columbia City, and for her last show as a Homestead Spartan. Looking back on her time in high school, Emily is proud of the hard work she and her teammates have put in, and claims "There is nothing else like knowing you put your heart into creating something and getting to share it with the people you love." In addition to Show Choir, Emily is part of HHS In-Depth and the Homestead internship program. She balances her time wisely to find a way to get everything done. Being a senior on the team means new responsibility. Emily hopes she will be as impactful of a senior as the upperclassmen were for her. Emily mentions that "They were just incredible women who taught us all so much" and she has loved tried to cultivate this same positivity to the underclassmen this year. One of her proudest Show Choir  moments was standing for finals against rival Loveland Allure. They had a great comeback to beat our Loveland Allure by just one point.

Winterguard update

On the third of February, all of the Winter Guard teams will be competing at Westfield. As for February 17th and 18th, varsity will be going to Avon while the JV and Cadet teams will be going to Goshen.

Dance

Outside of the classroom, many students take part in the beautiful artform of dance. Senior Olivia Scavo gave some insight as to what her experience with the Homestead Dance Team has been and how it has made her better. For the season, she most looks forward to Nationals where she feels like this team will bring a different energy and mindset than in the past. This team has been a great way for her to keep good relationships and surround herself with people that make her better as a person. She has loved getting to watch the underclassmen mature as dancers and people throughout the season. Dance has also improved other aspects of her life, improving her ability to manage time and get things done in her free time. Being a part of this team and being able to see her improvement in skill and confidence has helped her see herself from a new perspective. The support and encouragement that she has felt from the dance community has meant so much to her, and she will be sad to leave it behind.
