Academic Eligibility

In order to remain academically eligible to compete in athletics, students must be passing FIVE of their seven classes. 

By IHSAA rule, an “I” (incomplete) is considered a failing grade when determining eligibility. Grade checks are made after 9 weeks and at the semester. Any student-athlete who has not passed FIVE (5) credits on the following date(s) at 4:00 p.m., will be declared ineligible for the remainder of the next grading period. 

End of Grading Period Dates: March 15th, and May 29th

Girls wrestling goes to state

Girls wrestling is an up-and-coming sport, hoping to gain more traction in the future. This year Homestead had two members, Katie Vardaman (junior) and Hayden Sherman (junior). In the midst of the post-season, Katie Vardaman won semi-state for wrestling! She then moved on to the state meet in Kokomo where she she finished as the state runner-up! Congratulations Katie on this great achievement! 

Player of the Week: Myah Epps

On the week of January 11th, Myah Epps was named the 21Alive Girls Basketball Player of the Week. Myah has stepped into a leadership role on the young basketball team this year. She has been putting up big numbers all year, including a 30 point performance against Pike. In an intense in-conference match up against Snider Myah had 27 points, playing tough the whole way through. The Lady Spartans just fell short 60-52.

500 wins

Boys Basketball Head Coach Chris Johnson has hit a new milestone. With the win over Marion on January 13th, Coach Johnson now has 500 career wins! He is in 29th year of coaching, and the team is currently 8-9 on the season. Go out and support the boys on at Wayne on February 6th for a tough match-up. The boys will be back in action at home on February 16th against Carroll!

As the winter sports seasons come to a close, the spring sports seasons will get started and be highlighted here! The girls basketball team began sectionals on January 30th at Colombia City. The sectional championship game will be played at Colombia City at 7:00 pm on Saturday, February 3rd. We will have an update on the girls basketball postseason next month!
