EXPERIENCE When I was young, I wanted to be a sports broadcaster. Midway through college I decided instead of pursuing the broadcasting dream to pursue teaching it. I was hired by Homestead right after I graduated college and began my career of teaching high school Radio and TV. I still had interest in being on air and calling sporting events, so I worked part-time for a few radio stations calling local sporting events and eventually working up to hosting my own weekly sports talk show on ESPN Radio. I’ve gotten to attend some major sporting events as a member of the media and interview some big names in the sports world, including Peyton Manning, Chipper Jones, Andrew Luck, Tony Dungy, Matt Painter and Tom Izzo. Everything I’ve learned in the “real world” of radio has been brought back to the classroom for the benefit of Homestead students. In the last few years we have transitioned Radio and TV to Digital Media and introduced many new elements to the aspiring broadcasters of Homestead, including Homestead Live, our live video streaming program.
WHY DO I TEACH? First and foremost, I have a passion for what I do. I feel energized every morning driving to school by what I can bring to the classroom that day. I feel my calling is to ignite my students imagination and inspire them into accomplishing things they didn’t even know existed inside them. As Albert Einstein once said, “it is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge,” that’s what I strive to do each day.

ABOUT ANDY I was born in Fort Wayne and I am a 2006 Homestead graduate. I developed my passion for all things broadcasting and music as a student director for WCYT. I went on to Indiana University Bloomington and majored in telecommunications and an individualized major in the History of Rock and Roll. In my free time I enjoy going to concerts, traveling, listening to podcasts, watching the Indiana Pacers and running.

EXPERIENCE As a student of Homestead High School I spent every moment possible in the radio station. After high school, I went on to be a leader at Indiana University’s Union Board (the student run programming board in charge of booking, promoting and running concerts for national recording artists). After college, I spent time in Los Angeles with the Planetary Group a boutique music marketing company. I helped promote new music to non-commercial radio stations around the world. Then I came back home and worked as a producer for Federated Media with WOWO and ESPN Radio. I started working at Homestead in 2013, that year I started an after school club called Audio Aficionados, where each week we listen to a full length album. I am currently a board member for the Middle Waves Music Festival.
WHY DO I TEACH? I teach to be the avenue for the struggling students to find their voice or passion, as I did when I was in this program as a student. I am driven by connecting with the students who excel and get them push their creative boundaries beyond the basic requirements. The broadcasting program at Homestead gave me opportunities I would have never dreamed of growing up. The radio station gave me a place to shine and I hope to give right back to any student looking for a place to belong and grow.
