Davis Bike Club's: GOLD RUSH RANDONNEE September 3 - 6, 2025
You are responsible for securing your own lodging for the event. We have contacted the Days Inn (Host Hotel) in Davis and the Gold Pan Lodge in Quincy and they know you will be calling. Let them know that you are with the Davis Bike Club Gold Rush group. If you wish to stay somewhere else, that's cool, but know that check-in and bag drop will be at the above hotels only.
All events will start and end at the Days Inn (Host Hotel) in Davis.
1000k riders will end Day 1 & 2 in Quincy at the Gold Pan Lodge and then return to the Days Inn in Davis.
1200k riders will end Day 1, 2 & 3 in Quincy at the Gold Pan Lodge and then return to the Days Inn in Davis.
Silver Lining Perm riders start in Quincy on Day 4 and end in Davis at the Days Inn.
Yes! There will be a bike check on September 2nd at the Host Hotel between noon & 4:00PM, followed by an event meeting at 5:00 PM. Details to be announced. Be ready to show that your bicycle is in good working order, that it is equipped with lights that will work throughout 3.5 days of riding.
Per RUSA Requirements (Article 10) You'll need to prove the following:
Adequate reflectivity: Ankle bands, reflective vest
Adequate lighting: On your bike, 2 head and tail lights. Lights that can go the distance.
Your Helmet.
Your SPOT Tracker if you are bringing your own.
For this version of Gold Rush, we’re using a free system called “eBrevet” developed by Chris Nadovich with the Pennsylvania Randonneurs. It is NOT optional.
You can turn your phone off entirely between controls to save power if desired and the app can be used without cell phone reception as it stores your location and uploads when you next have service. (The app will require location/GPS data to be enabled when at controls.)
Instructions for Gold Rush 1200k & 1000k are listed below and more comprehensive instructions are available.
Please complete the below steps ASAP.
1. Download the “eBrevet” app on the Apple Store or Android Play. The open-source app is free. There are no ads or 3rd party tracking. (The app icon is shown at the top of this page.)
2. Launch the app and give it permission to use your location, if requested. Enter in your name and RUSA number as prompted. (Please double check your RUSA number is correct.)
3. Important: Open the settings menu from the top right and click the “Event Info Source” option. For “Brevet Region” select “CA: Davis” for all Davis Bike Club events. If you do not complete this step, you will not see GOLD RUSH listed.
4. Click the back button (←) to save the region selection and click “Update Event Data” from the main screen. You should now see Gold Rush 1000k and Gold Rush 1200k that have been configured for ebrevet usage.
1. On the morning of the Gold Rush (Just before we start), select the distance you plan to ride (1200k or 1000k) and select the “Ride” button.
2. Enter your personal Brevet Start Code. This can be found in your brevet card and/or from the volunteer who is checking in riders. Note: Enter this code in as soon as you are given your brevet card. You do not need to wait for the ride to begin.
3. When you arrive at a control, open the app and select the “GPS Update” button to check-in. You are only able to check into a control when you are physically at that location so do not forget to complete this step! (This takes the place of receipts or photos.) If you do not have cell reception, you can still check-in and upload that verification later once you have service.
4. At the finish, the eBrevet app will provide a code, provided you checked-in to all the controls with the app. Write this code in the brevet card and give it to the volunteer. You must physically give your brevet card to the volunteer at the end of the event for your completion to be official.
Note: if you don't have phone signal or the app doesn't manage to sync the checkin, it will appear in orange instead of happy green. DO NOT WORRY! When you go back to civilization with a good phone signal, the app will sync and all the checkins will be transmitted.
Note: The GPS update will probably take a few seconds. For a visual version of the GPS update, you can go to your Google-Maps app and update your location there. When the location is updated in Google-Maps, it is available for all apps including eBrevet.
Important: If you do not plan to finish within the time limit, you must call the volunteer via the phone number listed on the brevet card. The phone number can also be found by selecting the information (“i”) button in the app next to the event. Using the app is not a substitute for informing the organizer you are are not finishing.
Each rider will be allowed one medium sized bag for bag drop in Quincy. Please clearly mark your name and rider number on your bag. Please provide a bag that closes with zippers - open bags with handles, but no closures will not be accepted.
No rolling suitcases please. Soft medium sized duffel bags are excellent choices.
It should be small and light enough that you can carry it on your own up stairs or across uneven surfaces in the dark. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
All bags for all events will be brought to the Gold Pan Lodge in Quincy on Day 1 for all events.
1000k rider bags will be returned to the Days Inn on Day 3.
1200k: rider bags will be returned to the Days Inn on Day 4.
Silver Lining Perm: rider bags will be returned to the Days Inn on Day 4.
By Plane: Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is a half hour away, servicing most of the nation's cities. Service to and from the airport to Davis is easily managed by Uber/Lyft or a rental car.
By Train: The Capital Corridor (Amtrak) serves the Sacramento - East Bay area and connects via BART from San Francisco Airport (SFO) or Oakland's Airport (OAK). The train has stops in downtown Davis and a bicycle car for hanging your bicycle.
Bring a lock!
By Car: Davis is located on US 80, about 15 miles from Sacramento and 60 miles from San Francisco. To get to the host hotel, take the Mace Rd exit.
By Bike: Have your gear sent ahead of you to the Host hotel and ride your bike to the start location! It's a great way to warm up for the ride.
As they say, there is no bad weather, just poor clothing choices.
Weather in the Sierras in late Summer, early Fall is variable. You can expect cool nights (close to freezing), and very warm days with bright sunshine. Expect rain. Snow is unlikely in the higher elevations.
UPDATE 8/24: Weather in Quincy during our ride is now forecasted for low to mid 80's during the day and mid 50's during the night. Those are great temps! That doesn't mean to get rid of all of your clothing to keep you warm. Descending off of Gold Lakes Road in the early hours of Day 3 will be chillllllyyyyy. Also, remember that it is the coldest just before sunrise.

After pedaling, this might be the most important aspect of the event. Getting the nutrition you need for success is a partnership between us (what we serve) and you (what you eat, and how it fuels you)!
In 2022, Chef Gary Parsons and Bill Green, were on hand in our outdoor kitchen to serve riders as they came in and departed for the next day. They worked tirelessly, and were available 24/7 for the entire event. Food was outstanding (just ask anyone who joined us in 2022) and both Gary and Bill will be back for 2025.
In 2025, you can expect to find the outdoor kitchen at the Gold Pan Lodge. See the set times for when the kitchen is open or closed. That gives Gary and Bill time to rest and get some sleep, which was on short supply for them in 2022.
Breakfast will be at a set time each morning in Quincy, but if you are departing before the kitchen opens, we will have "grab & go" bag of breakfast goodies that you can take to your room and use the micro-kitchen appliances in your room for coffee, etc. Similarly, dinners will be served each evening, but there will always be a hot meal waiting for you when you arrive. Lunch is always on you out there along the course.
KITCHEN Open for Breakfast: 4:30 AM, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. You outta be rolling by 5:00-5:30... KITCHEN closes at 6:30 AM
KITCHEN Open for Dinner: 7:00 - 7:30 PM Wednesday, 7:30 - 8:00PM Thursday & Friday . Kitchen closed once everyone has dined.
MEET THE GOLD RUSH TEAM
The RBA
Deb Banks is your go to person when you have a question, a problem, or a celebration! 🎉
She's just one of the masterminds behind this event, but she's the one who ultimately will give you credit for your ride! 😃🗝️🥇🏆
The House Chef
Our amazing Chef Gary Parsons will be on hand once again to support riders with sustenance. #IYKYK ☕🥐🍇
We are working a hearty, tasty menu; in 2022 we served dinners and breakfast on the go. Lunch was your responsibility while out on course.
The Route Master
Bill Green is the man behind the scenes making routes, looking for cool places to visit, quietly, efficiently and excellently. 📍🧭🗺️
We are changing routes a tiny bit from 2022 and adding a few surprises. The routes here are not FINAL, so stay tuned!
The Lackey
Mark Behning is another most important person (MIP) on this team. He fills in and does it all, whatever it is whenever it is. 🏍️💡🏕️
Mark will be on hand throughout the event making sure it all goes and goes well.
Plus all of the volunteers who help make this event happen: the team in Davis at the start and finish, those who are stationed out in remote locations, and our sag drivers. We could not do this without their dedication, energy and hard work.
This event cannot happen without the support of volunteers, so Yes! for sure we need and want volunteers. We'll have detailed information on what we need, but if you know now that you can lend a hand, please fill out this form. Thanks in advance! If you have any questions, get in touch with the RBA.
