The Ratification of the Equal Rights amendment in Colorado
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) states that "equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." It was ratified by both chambers of the United States Congress in 1972 and sent to state legislatures to be permanently ratified. While many states voted against ratification, Colorado voted to ratify the ERA. My research, primarily through primary source analysis, examines the historical and political factors that caused Colorado to vote in favor of ratification.
