Welcome back to my blog! I am so excited to share some final updates and sign off!
Content
Throughout my research process, I was able to learn that the claims of critical race theory being embedded in our school systems in the state of Colorado are not well supported. In turn, I was able to find out that my research can further be applied to ensuring that parents, community members, teachers, students and all stakeholders can be informed upon the results of my research to allow them to understand in context what critical race theory actually has to do with these diversity and equity statements.
This research has so many future applications such as increasing the sample size and looking at the demography of school districts and I hope to take a closer look into these elements in the near future.
Product
The synthesis of my research into a final presentation and research paper was quite insightful as it allowed me to further learn how to create an academic paper and presentation that would represent my project and be able to defend my own choices to a panel and within a paper. I really liked how there was an oral defense because that allowed me to express and explain my project in more clearer terms and that was super beneficial when I was able to fix my paper based on my comments!
In the future, using peer review and further finding ways to make a more refined and stronger final product to communicate the amount of hard work that has gone into a project will now become one of my top goals and priorities.
Process
The research process taught me a lot about self-advocacy and flexibility as conducting a full research project and creating a presentation and research paper was difficult and a challenging task. I learned that I needed to budget my time well and find ways to find solutions to any discrepancies in my research process in a very controlled and methodical manner. I will use this in research while at college but also when combating issues that I will have to face with classwork and other similar situations.
Acknowledgements!
I would like to extend some well-deserved acknowledgements to the following individuals who guided and supported me throughout the research process:
Ms. Burnham for always supporting me throughout the research process and helping me formulate a strong research topic
Mr. Laudick mentoring me in the beginning of the research process and helping me find resources to conduct my research
Mr. Winkelmann for helping me communicate my research to the public and consistently challenging me to improve my research and synthesis skills
Dr. Andrew Beckman for being my professional mentor and helping me ensure my research was the strongest it could possibly be and giving me experience on how to work with a professor when doing research
Ms. Dobos for being the best course instructor and mentor helping with ensuring that we were the most sucessful we could be in the AP Capstone program!
Here is me and AP Research students Olivia Gallo, Frances Stroud and Khadija Sow with Ms. Dobos at Prom celebrating after submitting our papers!
Here is me and fellow AP Research student Olivia Gallo at the Research Symposium, we were both featured speakers at the event!
What's Next??
As this journey of AP Research and high school comes to a close it is so exciting to start thinking about the future and my next steps. I am so excited to attend Rice University in Houston, TX this fall studying statistics and computational finance and modeling! I plan to continue researching social issues and its intersection with statistics in college and I am so excited to see where this journey will lead me!
Here is the Rice University crest! Go Owls!
Here is my final presentation slide deck and paper that was submitted to the College Board as my final AP Research project!
That's a wrap! Thank you so much for joining me on this journey this year and I wish all you the best!
